Love Detectorists. Such a uniquely British show about male friendship where shared obsessions can become a kind of substitute language for guys who struggle to articulate their feelings (hi motorcycling!)...

They just did a sort-of Christmas Special after swearing they were done after three series', so maybe we'll see more, but I doubt it. I'll miss Simon & Garfunkel, aka the Dirt Sharks, aka Terra Firma, aka Absolut Hunters...

"Legend of Vox Machina" on Prime - Adult animated show based on the popular live Dungeons and Dragons play series called "Critical Role" that's led by Matt Mercer, whose players are well known voice actors. I've only watched maybe two episodes of the live play, but really enjoying the series. (I've been a role playing gamer, off and on, since the late '70s)

Squeeze says there's a movie set 5 years later. Heading into S3. I was not reading so much into it I just like the subtle humour.

Clarkson is unbearable for me, totally ruined Top Gear (for me) by buying into his own crap. After a few false starts with radio DJ's and Matt LeBlanc from Friends, the BBC finally settled on a decent group for the revamped Top Gear, and it's as good as the old one ever was (especially once you puzzle out how heavily scripted their 'adventures' became on the old one). If you're interested, it's the ones with Paddy McGuinness (comedy actor best known for working with Peter Kay), Freddie Flintoff (ex-cricketer for England) and Chris Harris (car vlogger and race driver). Oh, and I still like James May a lot. His 'Our Man in...' series on Prime are great.

I've been on Crave heavily for the first time in a long time, with those HBO shows in heavy rotation. The Last of Us has been a mixed bag for me, with some really dull 'zombie' horror mixed with some really beautiful moments (episode three). If you want your post-apocalyptic TV slightly less grim, I can't recommend Station Eleven highly enough. Once you get past the seemingly insane pretence of a travelling company of Shakespearean actors in the post-apocalyptic timeline, it really hits home.

Another HBO series we loved was the second season of White Lotus. The first was a brilliant examination of the privileged and those in their orbit at a titular resort in Hawaii, made as a response to pandemic restrictions by having essentially a bottle show, rather than episode.

The second takes place at another White Lotus resort, this time in Sicily (they must've hired the BBC cameramen from the various Planet Earth series', as the landscape and ocean are stunningly beautiful). It kicks off with an unidentified body, so you spend the rest of the series guessing who dies. The acting is mostly amazing, and there's a LOT of sex (hi HBO), so definitely not a family show. But between the nuanced characters (including returning Jennifer Coolidge from Best In Show, Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos, Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation, and F. Murray Abraham from Amadeus), the mystery of the death, and the examination of power and sex in relationships both transactional and committed, it's got a lot going on. Plus, it's a neat seven episodes, so not a massive time commitment. Oh, and there's a lot of truly beautiful people in it, so is easy in the eyes, whatever your preferences...

Clarkson is an oaf, but he’s an entertaining oaf. I didn’t like him too much on Top Gear but oddly on Clarkson’s Farm he comes across as a bit more human at times.

Just finished watching "The Almighty Johnsons" again on Prime. Such a good comedy/drama series out of New Zealand. I originally saw it shortly after it first came out, then again when what used to be SPACE aired it in Canada. Premise: The avatars of the Norse Gods fled Norway, as Christianity was making things more than a little uncomfortable, and moved to New Zealand. The essence of the gods is passed through the lines of families who fled. Now the youngest Johnson brother, Axel, finds out that he's the vessel for Odin. The few appearances of Thor are my favourite bits :ROFLMAO:

Think that I'll now do a rewatch of the early '70s Gerry and Sylvia Anderson show "UFO" on Roku.

I want the same producers to do Peridido Station .. the fan art alone is insane ..damn books imagery still haunts my dottor and I
Perdido Street Station by Alberto Gordillo (see comments for more Bas-Lag related art) : r/SpecArt

Construct Council from the book The Perdido Street Station. (x/post from /r/books) : r/scifi

Watching Carnival Row S02E02 now… so well done…

It's the world building in "Carnival Row" that gets me. Basically Steampunk Victorian Europe, with fantasy races thrown in, bt they make it work.

Physical:100 - another Korean supershow on Netlix - like “Squid game” (and from the same producers I think) but real and without killing anyone :)

Love the culture of respect:
Bow, “Would you fight me? You are my senior but I will try to beat you, with respect” bow

I've been watching it. I don't mind it. You're right about the culture being different. They show respect, but they also taunt, but the taunts seem to be more for show. Then again, it could be the translation that makes it seem that way. 🤔

Informative

I've read a lot of WW11 lit - this is low budget but brilliant as it concentrates on the background and strategy so I learned lot from each episode even on battles I was familiar with . It covers the conflicts from both sides. It also analyses the weapons involved in detail.
Recommended if you are a WW11 buff.
