I usually look up the top speed record for the track (motorcycle), then set my gearing so that'll be my top speed, cause I know I won't be gettin there
Flawlessly accurate assuming your tires are pretty standard. The profile on some race tires is wacky (tire is taller) so it can throw that site off a bit. Remember to change the RPM to your redline to figure out top speed (default RPM is at peak power).
After thinking about it some more I think I'll just stay -1, 0 and work on keeping up corner speed to improve lap times. This feels a lot smoother than -1 +3. With both -1,0 and -1,+3 I top out around 220km/h on the back straight (gps speed). Except with -1, +3 I can pull out of the corners harder and be at 220km/h for a longer time on the back straight.
This is what i ran this year on my 09 cbr 600rr with stock motor. Pro Track Shanny 15/44 - 1:09, St- Eustache 15/44 - :49, Mosport 16/44 - 1:27, Mont-Tremblant 15/43 - 1:48. Good base line to start with. ( stock is 16/42)
