Total loss on my bike...looking for the next one

That's not TOO bad! Unless you cheat when measuring yourself. I guess we're all guilty of that...

And I'm only 5'9". I flat-foot my ER-6n, which has a listed seat height of 31". Obviously seat height doesn't take suspension compression into account, especially not from my fat ***.

I had a 1998 VFR this summer and I kept it for a month. It gets HOT. The exhaust heats up your right foot so much that you have to hold it on the outside edge of the peg. Nice bike, but for highway only.
So I'm shopping for a bike too and having a hard time. I'm finding the seats that are slanted toward the tank are not very male friendly. Even if you can push yourself back so the boys don't come in contact with the tank you still get your pants sticking to the seat while your body is forced forward by gravity. The result is a reverse gotchie. The two-tiered seats of sportbikes are nice and flat but the rider's seat is not long enough. I'd like something like a classic Triumph seat on a bike with a bit more power and alloy wheels.

K so that nixes the VFR...me and my bootie shorts won't be so happy with another burned calf.

Hahaha, bootie shorts eh?

I must fore-warn u how bad exhaust burn can be. I've burnt myself 2x and have a scar on my right leg. Not pleasant, took a month to heal.

needless to say, I don't wear a bootie short while riding anymore :(

Weren't you supposed to pick up a pair from me? Oh man...where's that thread!?!?

and i already burned myself on the Thunderace this summer...Thought you saw the google pic. lol..it was nasty...

Really that hot?
Never had an issue with mine in 5 years.
I do wear motorcycle boots most of the time so that could explain why. Not a fan of riding with running shoes.

Same here, on both counts, while commuting for 9 years on a Y2K VFR800.

Dude, listen to this. I have personal horror stories from The Personal that would make you switch insurance companies in a heartbeat.

Primmum claims: wouldn't even return a call (in 4-6 weeks) until the insurance ombudsperson was involved, and even then, they were dragging their heels!

I was wearing low rise safety shoes with steal toe and shank, so my ankles were exposed. But even the big aluminum frame spars that run down the side of the bike got way hot. Temperature read 105°C which I guess is normal. Thermostat and rad fan seemed to work well. When temp got high fan would come on and knock it back down to 96 or so. Maybe some of that thermal wrap around that octopus of an exhaust header would have made it better but I wasn't thrilled with the seating position either. I guess I'm getting old and wimpy. I hope it's not time to buy a Harley. ;)

It's never time to buy a Harley!:lmao:
Unless you plan way ahead to stop the dang things (they are not braking wonders; actually I wonder if they have some brakes sometimes). I have ridden with friends that have Harleys.
------------------------------

Just buy a GSXR1000, CBR1000RR or any 1000 cc!
Light @ approx. 442 lbs full of fuel, more mid-range torque than most riders will ever need (great for street riding), you will never have to rev it up so the motor should last forever, power is enough so no aftermarket mods required which will save money :), lowish seat height as it is near the size of a 600 SS. Low centre of gravity. Will get you that 'Respect' you speak of. And the bike will get your respect! Can we say, "Throttle control." You can do double the back highways' speed limit in 1st gear, so you can relax as you could just never shift contributing to extending the life of the clutch (less shifting). This would leave more time posing and earning respect while riding = muti-tasking! Multi-tasking = good for the resume!

Just trying to help!

Seriously, naked bikes are not warm to ride in the spring and fall times due to no wind protection. So if you ride outside of the big city you may wish to consider this. Also no protection in the rain on the highways.

Good luck in your search. As has been suggested, go sit on as many different bikes as you can.

Watch out with the personal, every call to them after a single claim (even calls not in regards to the claim) were extremely hostile on their part.

A very large +1!

I'm very interested... I'm with the Personal right now. I get good rates with them because I'm registered with the PEO, but they very much come across as a very conservative insurance company... ie. they would drop me if I told them that I modded my bike with a tank guard.

Don't take a bike out of your list only because one rider reported hot feet, ankles, calfs or whatever body part. There's probably tons of people who have never had an issue with it ....
