Torque wrench 5ft/lb - 80 ft/lb

Any recommendations on a smaller sized torque wrench, one that fits in smaller spaces and is calibrated for 5 - 80 ft/lbs?
(and that doesn't break the bank)
Thanks.

You're going to have trouble covering that range accurately with one wrench. Ideally you don't want to use the bottom 20% of the range as accuracy down there is a crap-shoot. If you want to stick with that rule, 5 to 80 is not possible. Digital torque wrenches probably don't have this limitation but are not budget friendly. I would be looking for at least two to cover that range with mechanical wrenches.

If you really want to get away with one, calibrate it yourself before every critical measurement at the range you want (eg if you need 5 ft-lbs, hang a 5 lb weight 12" from the head and make sure it just clicks).

Should i have been more specific?A light duty torque wrench and a heavy duty torque wrench?

You need 2 torque wrenches, a 3/8" one and a 1/2" one. The 3/8" one is calibrated in inch pounds and the 1/2" one is calibrated in foot pounds. I purchased CT Maximum wrenches on sale and I've been using them for years.

Thank you, now I understand ..duh.
Any recommendation for the light-duty torque wrench?
Earlier, had to get the oil drain plug helicoil'd (Thanks Adrian, Ace Moto Tech) due to my enthusiasm to proactively prevent a leak
Steel bolt, aluminium casing, breaker-bar, you get the idea. So now I am convinced of the necessity of a 10-80 ft/lb torque wrench and am looking for an inexpensive one as I do not wrench on a regular basis.
Any input is welcome!

CT, have both a 1/2" and 3/8" drive on sale this week. Both are full-size and it will be hard getting them into a tight space. I bought the 1/2" one and am looking to get a smaller sized 3/8" drive (like the one you have specified).

I prefer a beam type for light work.

Need to get myself one of those,
Do they go bad over time?
I hope not. My craftsman is Almost 50 years old.

For doing general work on your motorcycle the 3/8" drive torque wrench from Princess Auto is fine. This wrench will measure in foot lbs. For smaller bolts, especially those 10mm ones that screw into aluminum the $20 1/4" drive inch-lbs. dial type at Princess Auto is best. I don't recommend using the 1/4" drive type with the adjustment in the handle for inch lbs., I have not had good experience with their accuracy.

I have no idea if this PA 1/4" torque wrench is any good, but their description of it should be concerning................

"Delivers up to 80 in.-lb of torque for precision tightening tasks, such as installing lug nuts".

Let's hope some poor sap who knows nothing about torque wrenches and the different between inch pounds and foot pounds buys this to tighten the lug nuts on their car.

Princess auto has some pretty good sales on torque wrenches right now. I picked up a spare 1/2" drive 150 ft/lb one there yesterday for $19.99 on the "Special Buy" rack. Just couldn't pass that up.

Wingboy, I thought I was the only person who still had one of those classics LOL.

Last time i used it was doing a top end job on my daughter's TY175. She turned it into a submarine. It's really nice for cylinder head torque on vintage stuff.
