Toronto to waste +6 Mill Renaming Dundas street.

You guys better watch out...one wrong statement about Snowflake and you will have to deal with Safespace...

What about Ford Drive?

A close friend recalled a camping trip in 1919 during which Ford lectured a group around the campfire. He "attributes all evil to Jews or to the Jewish capitalists," the friend wrote in his diary. "The Jews caused the war, the Jews caused the outbreak of thieving and robbery all over the country, the Jews caused the inefficiency of the navy…"

I'm not being serious, but I am surprised this has not been brought up by the "sensitive" members of our society..

Damn, I should really start an Asian railroad movement and see how much $$$ I can bully out from the government even though none of my relatives or family have anything to do with the railroad.

Am I doing this right? Just trying to copy what other minorities are doing to fit in =')

except none of the money will go to you. it'll go to stupid projects like this and Trutard apologizing and condemning the past. you might get lucky and get an asian or chinese 'day'. no paid holiday though.

Ok. That makes sense. I never refer to "generation snowflake". I think of snowflakes as individuals. Are there more snowflakes amongst younger people? Seems plausible but I don't have any evidence to support that.

This'll tie into the thread I think.

From what I've read and experienced, some millennials and a vast majority of gen z have the first 4 levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs met. The last step, self actualization, was previously only accessible to the super old or super rich. Self actualization involves painful stuff like existential depression because we start asking "what's the point?"

The above has led to a sharp increase in suicide rates in adolescents, very similar in characteristics to popstars/rockstars who off themselves (RIP Chester) and this massive nit picky movement we're seeing (to find meaning.)

Dunno how this will play out but after understanding the above, I don't play the "you're all weak af" card anymore. The other odd correlation I'm finding, but this is only within ppl I've met so my sample size is small, is the successful ones did not have the first 4 levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs met. This usually involves family divorces, abuse, etc. which meant the focus was on the first 4 lvls before asking "what's the point of this?"

TL;DR: Yes, there are more snowflakes at this time in the Western world, and they're also killing themselves because they can't find meaning in life. So even though I think renaming Dundas is ******* stupid (along with renaming Master and Slave in computers), it'll probably stop someone from offing themselves.

wtf? What are they supposed to use instead of M&S? Those are real terms with well-defined meanings. Applying them to computers seems reasonable to me. Applying them to people is obviously inappropriate.

I agree. Our lives are too easy. We like to ***** but the vast majority of us have very few struggles in life that we have to overcome to survive. The harder your younger life was, very often the more successful (or criminal) you will be as you age as you learned to kick ass.

Meh, $6M is a total rounding error in the city budget. Actually being upset about the money? Well there is an extremely (ridiculously) long list of things to be upset about first, really $6M is so far down the list it is not even funny.

Wrong!

"Take care of the pennies and the dollars will look after themselves." has a lot of truth. OK this one and it's the thin edge of the wedge with every cause, justifiable or not, lining up for "Just a few million, a drop in the bucket, a rounding error."

This is civil servant thinking. Send the bill to the taxpayer. Six million is a guess. Reality will be worse. That will be nothing compared to the costs to the private sector to change stationery, websites, vehicle signage, TV ads etc. The transition will be a mess. "Drop by our store at XOX Zingo Street formerly known as XZZ Dundas Street..." Numbers should change as well to tuck in dropped numbers and get rid of the 2345a, 2345b slots.

Business owners will sue for compensation. Pay the business owners or pay an equal amount to your lawyers.

Critical thinking is thinking beyond the end of one's nose.

We need more employers. A CEO, looking for a new head office location, makes a +/- list for Toronto and sees the city plagued with controls by special interest groups. Bicycle mania, PC mania, Street closure festival mania, Help my home country close the Gardiner mania.

Maybe the jobs and office rentals will go elsewhere.

Plebiscites are an inefficient way of running a government but maybe we need one every few years to get the mood of the people.

Plebiscite: Proposal to rename Dundas Street. If approved it will cost every person living in Toronto $10. Yes or No?

If voting "yes" have your debit card ready. Tap and your $10 receipt will print in a few seconds.

Years ago I worked for a window manufacturer and someone in the office let it slip into the plant that when glass was ordered for a job an extra 10% was added to cover breakage. Suddenly everyone in the shop from receiving through manufacturing to final output got sloppy, figuring it didn't matter if they each broke 10%. The end result was we ran out of glass.

This is little different.

Unlike Americans who like to celebrate their losses (think confederate flag and the Alamo) I doubt Germany has too many Goringplatz or Hitlerstrasse's.

IHMO, this is all just lip service for politicians. I worked for John Tory at Rogers many years ago and he was always the first person to jump on the band wagon. I always though the guy was an idiot who was incapable of forming an opinion... Makes for a great politician though...

Its cheaper to do stuff like this to appease self righteous people than address the real problem. The Canadian Government (at all levels) attitude to the indigenous community is still "Eat **** and die"...

Why don't they use that money to help these folks^^^ instead of spending $6mm to help a white middle class person feel better about themselves. I don't get it. I also don't see too many people that are complaining about statues and street names actually putting their hands in their pocket to help.

I'm helping a friend with a startup company that's building out a solution to help people with Type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome and one of the study's they reference was done at UC San Francisco and involved the Inuit in the Canadian Arctic.

The Inuit that have been forced of their land and are "fed" from stores supplied by the Canadian Government have massive rates of Diabetes (~30%) and CHD and a life span that's 15 years shorter than the average Canadian. Those who live on the land have minimal rates of both Diabetes and CHD although their winter diet is basically 100% fat and protein. Same genes... its just they are not being pumped full of cheap government food laced with processed sugar and High Fructose Corn Syrup to give it years of shelf life.

Same with Coke. Their target market is urban Black and Hispanic people between the ages of 10 and 35 who now have diabetes rates of 20.4% and 22.1% respectively, compared to 12.1% for Whites and 14.1% for East Asian. Coke are woke as it suits their marketing and helps their bottom line.

Anyway, maybe there is a lesson for us all here, please don't drink that ****....

We could name streets after other towns.

Intercourse PA, Dildo NFLD, Hell Michigan

Any others?
Been to Hell. Dined with Jesus on our way there.

FIFY

Maybe the answer is they dropped so many bombs on the place that the streets were obliterated. They got to start over from scratch. Get the Americans to bomb Dundas Street to oblivion and then ask them for relief.

Watch "The Mouse That Roared" with Peter Sellers.

@mimico_polak

If a cross town tunnel was off 0.5% and built from both ends what sort of G forces could the trains handle through a corrective S bend. The 0.5% is in both the vertical and horizontal. :)

Positive and negative G forces :)

Thanks for posting this. Always worth it to look "at the other side."

**** like this is why a lot of us younger folk have a hate boner ready to impale corporations.

While I try not to think about the $6 million spent considering we all pay too much tax (lets face it, if you're replying on here and a rider, you likely pay more tax than the average person)...there's so much better **** to spend money on. This feels like they want to brownie points for some PR stunt, well **** government don't use my money for it! I want my money used to solve real material problems.

I don't want to do a thread hijack (mods feel free to delete) but there are only 10 corporations in the world that control everything you eat and its all laced with sugar and HFCS with the fiber removed so it can sit on a shelf for years. I think you have every right to be angry at these companies
