Today, I rode a Harley

I've never slept with a red head until recently and when I did, I was disappointed. They never really appealed to me before but, the hype about them being a fire cracker in bed and those that have slept with a red head have said it's been so amazing, I thought I should give it a try. What a waste of time!!!!

Seriously, everyone has their own preferences. Some unsuspecting folks may ride an HD for the first time and be impressed. Others will be terribly disappointed.

I can tell you one experience I've had with a Ducati was very uncomfortable. The power, the craftmenship, the sound. All amazing. Rode it and found it terrible on my body. Very disappointed. Sure, I could try a different style of model and be completely comfortable.

The thing is, why slag on HD for doing what they do and not working for you? They appeal to a lot of people. Just not everyone.

There are plenty of other manufacturers out there that try to do the exact same thing. Low seating, C posture. Big displacement, good torque, mediocre HP. All priced in the same ball park as HD.

You got to pay up to "personalize" the bike to make it your own and/or give it more power.

I happen to like HD. I also wear some HD apparel. But, I don't buy into the whole life style stick or blindly follow the markee at the expense of others.

I can't really distinguish much between the Asian makers for their 600 or litre SS Bike. Other than paint, it's not easy to tell them apart. Riding/cruising with anyone of them on a country road or on the 400 series highway doesn't appeal to me at the least. I feel it's a waste but, that doesn't stop their respective brands from marketing them for their racing heritage, speed and power.

I don't ride a Harley but not everyone rides to go low in corners or hit 100 in first gear. For some of us its about the look of the bike, and yeah maybe a bit of cool factor as well.

and the ability to dress like a pirate ;-) ;-)

Question: those who don't know why anyone would want a Harley (and I get that, I really do, because as a home mechanic, I'd never want to work on an imperial bike, let alone one that rattles its own engine loose), is it the cruiser styling, or something else about Harley?

It's also the weight .... 550lbs dry!!! ... about 100lbs too many.

Unless you believe the cliche, "It doesn't matter, once you get the bike moving you don't feel the weight ... " .... LOL

Bro, but chrome has some weight

Sensible shoes. Engineering is not styling.

As soon as engines were invented somebody put one in a bicycle. And for many decades afterward the motorized bicycles' evolution concentrated on engineering to build a better performing product. Then some cool kids re-engineered them into useless rolling art. A "B" movie industry was built around these abortions. This provided a template for a lifestyle option. The factories took note and built factory "customs" which always performed less than the bikes they were based on. What's not to like?

There is no chrome on that model. That's the premium performance edition.

So you pay extra for no chrome, or pay extra for more chrome. They've got you either way. Smart.

To each his own. But, when someone vehemently puts down other peoples choices that really has no bearing on their lives, that usually signifies some deep inadequacy issues. And that goes for riders of all marques.

That's to tell you how much I know about HD

I'd give up an SS for this Harley

It just looks so damn cool.

+1

Coming from an SS, I never understood the appeal until I rode a Nightrod.
Beautiful bike. Very planted, and just all round fun to putter around in.

Personally, I don't like the obnoxiously loud pipes. Harley has that distinctive deep rumble. Very nice.

Would love to get into one soon.

:) For every action there's an equal and opposite reaction.

For someone who only do grade 10, that's pretty good

Life is so repetitive that you can't help but pick up on patterns. You should see me out of my core competencies. It's pretty sad.

This reminded me of my neighbour that brought over her harley squirting fluid all over. I like women that do that so maybe I would like a harley.

Well you've got a skill. If you can capitalise on that skill you're a rich man

For a long time I never thought I would be interested in a Harley. I rented one a few years ago and it served it's purpose just fine - it was a lower end model and a few years old at the time, so I could easily see how the newer models could be just fine for lots of people. I wasn't too big into the styling of a majority of their bikes, but once the different vrod and xr styled ones came on the market they were much more appealing. I can also see how a lot of their big touring models would be great for the really long hauls.

Going to Barber museum and seeing lots of the really old Harley's was a very interesting experience. Highly recommended for a road trip!
