TMP Saturday July 13

I run a 200 on the 636, i luv my chicken strips.

Other than your passion for poultry, is there any particular reason you run a 200? I'm not trying to be funny, I'm just trying to learn about potential benefits. The 200's I've looked at (pictures online) seemed to have flatter profiles than the 180/55 and 190/55, they were similar to 190/50. If there is no edge benefit, then also the weight of the tire is bigger...? I'm in my learning phase, sorry.

The dealer said he'd get bigger chicken strips with the 200 than the 190. And Jay loves his chicken strips so much....................

What's the specs on the front tire? 120/70 ? Has the bike geometry been changed, ie, forks raised in the triples (since you said it's stock suspension I'm assuming the back end hasn't been jacked up)? What pressure was being run (GPA's like something around 32F and 22R)?

Front 29psi 120/70
rear 22psi 190/60

Going through turn 1 there's that bump and it was very apparent I was out of suspension. Lol
All I felt (or believed to feel[newbie]) was a tire wallowing to the edge.

No geometry changes.

Wallowing to the edge eh? haha... I know what you mean, but in my experience, GP-A's shouldn't feel like that. 29psi is a bit on the low side. For reference, I ran 32 psi hot at Mosport last week and I weigh 185lbs. I'm assuming your pressures are hot pressures since I think you said you have warmers.

I just got it right off dunlop website.
Those are cold pressures.

So add 2-4psi For hot?

Yes completely stock but a revalve and respring is in the works

6'2
225lbs

I got my pressure settings right from Sandy at Pro6. You should measure your hot pressures. If you're not running warmers, measure the cold pressure so you know what it was, then measure as soon as possible when you get off the track. If you are running warmers, check before and after you go out. TMP doesn't really build much heat... The last time I ram GP-A's at TMP I was running 29 (hot) also and the bike felt awful all day, sliding the front all over the place and handling poorly. Somebody with more Dunlop experience recommended I go up 5psi, yes, 5, up to 34. I tried it, and wow, completely changed the feel of the bike. The sliding went away, and turning through 3/4/5 became so much easier. Results may vary, but this was my experience.

I'll try that for next Trackday. I set 29/22 cold put the Warmers on and just went with it for the whole day. They were just so much better than street tires I didn't even think to recheck temps with Warmers and after sessions

Potential benefits, i got the 200 at a good price. :p

I don't have the talent to tell the difference between a 190 or a 200 tbh. I would probably do the same lap times with a 160 mounted on the rear lol.

The 200 will have a larger contact patch at full lean so you can apply more power at a greater lean angle.

For what it's worth, my front tire looked like that after running GB but my rear still hadn't been to the edge. I assumed it was from trail braking and turning hard on the front but not having full lean at the mid/exit of the corner to get the rear tire all the way to the edge. At Shannonville where the corners are faster and longer I get the opposite wear, all the way to the edge on the rear with chicken strips on the front. I could be way out in left field here so correct me if I'm wrong.

This is all great info. The tire pressures and also that others have same wear is great to know.

Hopefully all front brake parts (and stompgrip) will be in before this weekend and I can get out two weekends in a row.

I was there on the 13th, was a great day. I got some decent photos of advance group, perhaps a handful of ok ones from green. Post your bike number and I'll see what I have..

Ok so here is some video.

3rd ever Trackday
1st session of the day
1st time with the GSX-R
1st time with GPAs
1st time with warmers

Don't worry I have big boy shoulders. ;)

I think you are doing great! Once you were up to speed you were hitting most of the apexes. Obviously there are places where you can carry more speed, but your lines are nice - you are better through 2/3 than I am, and I have WAY more laps at TMP than you do. I think from the video your lack of suspension travel is pretty apparent. I'll bet you'll be happy when you get that sorted.

Nice riding.

Thanks

Yes - suspension

It's amazing how helpful it is to watch yourself. It's pretty easy to see where you are going wrong w/ line, speed body position etc.
