Got your painters tape for your headlight, tail light, signals and reflectors?

Make sure your chain is the proper tension. Well lubed but don't make a mess on the rim or tire. Pull the fuses for your headlight, or the connectors off the back of the bulb(s).

Bring lots of stuff to drink, it's insane how dehydrated you get. Bring some energy bars, pack some sandwiches and fruit. A big greasy burger for lunch won't make your afternoon sessions much fun.

Bring some advil for the headache you might get, either from all the burnt rubber smoke from the drag strip or the noise of the track, etc.

If you are going by yourself, the automatic wheel chocks work amazing (instead of breaking your zip ties after every session, or trying to put your rear stand on your bike all by yourself). http://www.royaldistributing.com/ma...l-chock&catid=9:sales-a-promotions&Itemid=182

Track layout:

In the above map, the track exit is labelled correctly (called turn 12 on that map), but the track entrance is at turn 13 on that map, not half way down the straight where it's labelled.

It's free camping and might make sense to stay over the night before so you're all set up and fresh and ready to rock for tech inspection at 7:30am. Be ready at 7:30, not 8.

Back protector.

Even if a track day org allows for engine ice, anything glycol based (which engine ice is) is going to take a ton of time for them to clean up if it ever spilled on the track. Water is cheaper, there's no reason not to use it, just remember to take it out before winter comes.

I wouldn't count on there being tire or suspension setups if its not a GWB day, i dont believe racer 5 does either and i know TMP run days have nothing.

Street tires are fine but dont show up with an 8 year old 20 000+ km set of tires on the bike. Should be pretty obvious that if the tire wouldn't pass a safety at the shop you shouldn't be running it at the track.

I would recommend picking up some Dry-fit gear for wearing under your suit. Makes getting your suit on/off a lot easier, moving around in your suit it a lot easier, and you dont sweat the whole thing up.

I just use the cheap stuff from wal-mart. $20-30 should get you a shirt and pants.

Also might want to bring some sort of shelter/shade. Almost everyone has pit canopies. Makes sitting on pit lane a lot more bearable when it's sunny and shelter from the rain when it isn't.

Once again, wal-mart. I got mine for $50 on sale. Bring tie-downs to secure it to something so it doesn't blow away.

Other crap:
Tools
Pump
Pressure Gauge
Drinks
Food
Stands

SFer - if you do not have a back protector, I can lend you one of mine. I'm in St.Cath
They aren't required iirc, but a good idea for sure.

No way!!!! In the green group last time I was told we can pass only on the long straight and the one after, didn't know we were allowed to pass between turns 5 & 6 and 6 & 7 :D Good to know!!!

Other than that, I'll be there at 7ish, last time I was the first to go in when they opened the gate. SFer, park next to me, I'll help you out with everything, and I have the total understanding of a complete newbie, so we can find a common language for sure :) Btw, I didn't have a problem putting my bike on the rear stand all by myself, didn't have to break the side stand zip tie even once.

The canopy idea is great, I might pick one up. But if it's hot, shade is not that much better, only thing that solved the problem for me was an idling car with the AC on full MAX....not very environmentally friendly, but then again, we put out so much fumes from 14k RPM all day long, so that's a needle in a haystack.

It depends on the trackday organizer what rules they set on passing zones. Don't take that map as law. You will be instructed in the rider's meeting where you are allowed to pass.

Was it a track day run by GWB (Guys With Bikes)? I'm pretty sure they said, even in green group, passing was fine anywhere it was safe, just don't pass riders with an X on their back in the corners, don't "buzz" them, take their line, etc. Other than that, even in green group, anything "safe" was allowed.

Passing between 6 and 7 is tricky because riders cut diagonally across the track to take the straightest path through the chicane. Some of them do it in a nice smooth motion, some wait until half way between 6 and 7 and cut sharply over.

You can pif you're in green group why would you worry about where you can pass people? If so bump up to intermediate

Thanks everyone for tips and offers.

Have a back protector! I actually had a one price suit but it didn't fit the BP so I sold it and bought a two piece(tht fits the BP) since I ride 98% road.

Have underarmor shirt, will go to Walmart and get the bottoms.

Have rear stand. It's a little shifty though. I hate doing it myself.

Will be bringing Gatorade and water and snacks and powerbars.

Tires are two years old. I am hoping to wear them out at the track and buy new ones for next season.

Picked up zip ties, earplugs and green tape today.

Will have all my tools and definitely my rear wheel socket and eccentric chain tool.

Have to look through manual to find the right fuse to pull for the lights

And off course I will be taking the mirrors off.

I will be in red F-150 and a uhaul bike trailer. I'm only an hour away so I'll sleep at home. Be there for 0700.

Thanks for the map!

Last time I was there I was constantly stuck behind people, who would wait for the straight to gun it... it's either i'm too fast, or they are too slow. Next time I'll have a timer, so that I get a reading on where I'm standing about that..

See you at 7:00. We rode together this summer, I was leading and you were sweeping, remember? BTW, don't know about the green tape, I've got blue because I believe it's more aerodynamic ;)

Or neither? If you're too fast its super easy to get a good enough drive out of 1 to safely pass by getting late on the brakes for two, or passing on the outside of 3 before 4, and then disappearing. You dont need lap times to be in intermediate, just a comfort level on the bike and around other bikes. Hell when there's 3 groups im always on the slow end of hot shoe, be predictable and everyone else can go about their business.

How could I forget the torrential downpour as we were about to leave. ?

Blue tape eh? I looked at it, it did feel lighter and more aerodynamic even on the roll but It was twice the price at Canadian Tire. ;)

We'll have to put green vs blue to the test.

I'll keep an eye out for you and a grey escape.
