Tipped over someone's GSXR-1000, need advice

I had another question to everyone here:

Is it reasonable to have these kind of damages with sliders installed?

The guy is saying that he had sliders on the bike (I didn't pay attention to it at first) and when I met up with him again to inspect the damage they were gone.
He said that the left one got broken so he took both of them off.

EDIT:

I just got off the phone with the CRC.
They confirmed that collisions don't get reported to insurance unless an owner specifically asks for it.
Also, there is no regular sharing of information with insurers. The CRC might call the insurance to validate if a policy exists but to quote the Sgt. there, "it is rare that they call us to ask if an accident occured".

Nice enough that he thinks he's now trying to rip him off?

I take my statement back, maybe the bike owner isn't that nice. I actually contradicted myself here because I still think the Mr. GSXR1000 is still trying to come out ontop by not mentioning previous damage. Bar ends don't rust THAT fast.

Seems like there's no consistency in opinions. Still not sure what to do...
I have no problem with paying the guy money (well, aside from being out a couple of grand), but not if that means that my rates will go up anyway.

**** the insurance in this province.
lol Welcome to GTAM, everyone is an expert.

Post your question on the Insurance sub forum, there are a couple of guys there that work for insurance companies and they can clarify

a-) if the accident was reported to the collision center will your insurance go up anyways (I personally don't believe so since neither of the insurance companies are forking the money and your license didn't get an offence, but I am not an expert)
b-) With 2k damages, is it worth it paying instead of going through insurance, I think even if you insurance were to go up, does it justify forking 2k cash (I wouldn't myself, to much money to give out cash to someone)

Guy is probably going to pocket the money and buy ebay crap and that is not your problem but do ensure you get all the old parts back, you can recuperate a big chunk of your investment if you decide to pay him cash.

I do agree that is a lot of damage for a bike with Frame sliders, I have dropped my GSXR 750 (almost same bike) a few times and it doesn't look that bad and I got no frame sliders.

A frame slider will not brake just by a tip over - Crashed my race bike many times and the sliders are still there

That guy is shady

A cheapy no cut slider will easily, and it's a gixxer remember, no cut sliders are a given

Depends what kind, if they're the cheapy cheapy ones, then they'll snap like a cracker. Also, sliders are just that, Sliders. Some don't perform well on impacts as they're meant to be sliding along the road/track.

But yeah, this seems like the rider has a legit claim to get things fixed and figures, "well since I'm getting this done, then might as well get all this other **** fixed too that I've been putting off"

I'd go through insurance and be done with it. Lesson learned, life goes on.

I guess you are right, an ex of mine bought a GSXR with these Chinese pieces of crap that were silver and the paint will come off if you scratched it with your nail - For some reason I assumed these were "real" frame sliders.

Whether you pay him his requested $2000 or you feel that you didn't cause that much damage and somehow you negotiate a lower settlement (I doubt he'll budge that much, if at all), the big question here is if he'll still call his insurance company after you pay him. I'd want to be pretty sure he doesn't do that before deciding to fork over a single dollar to him. All he needs to do is pick up the phone. He's got one year to do that. You screwed up once. What's your risk tolerance for possibly screwing up twice?

To the OP, congrats on doing the right thing. Hope all this back and forth doesn't turn you into a slimball who will turtle next time something happens. Hopefully if anything like this happens to you you'll be taken care of too.

Something similar happened to me in my cage years ago, guy clipped the rear of my car and left a note. I started out demanding the moon until the guy stated, "I could have driven off and left, can you try to be reasonable". We wound up getting a legit estimate at a garage of his choice (which was less than the garage of my choice). I accepted that offer and had my garage fix my car and I paid the difference. Still better than a hit and run with me covering the full cost.

As a side note, I often see riders squeeze their bikes in between cars and wonder how often ***** like this happens. I never park my bike in such a way that a tap from a car will tip it over.

I also saw this on another forum. Not sure they'll ship to Canada but a great idea!

Good to know, thanks for the info !

Isnt 24 hours the maximum allowed time to report the accident?

I reported mine on the 7th day. That was the deadline I gave to the guy that rear-ended me to pay the cash... He never did. I told the story to the CRC, and they were fine with it.

don't know the full story, as there's always 2 sides to a story and actual fact.

let it go through insurance.... the motorcyclist obviously wants money out of this... i'm sure the appraiser will pick up on the bull that the motorcyclist is trying to palm off...
how do you know hes trying to get money out of this... so far all he has said is pay the shop their quote, or pay me 2grand and ill fix it, you can save a few bucks.

everytime someone tries to avoid insurance everyone jumps all over it and sayd hes going to screw you and claim insurance after.
just get a contract signed that says you paid him for the damage 2 grand and you and your insurance company no longer have any liability for the damage.

Can we all agree that the rust on the handle bar is suspicious? Remember this happened a couple of weeks ago.

Can a bike tip over on the left side and:

1) break slider
2) damage clutch
3) scratch mirror
4) damage handle
5) scratch fairing
6) bend in the exhaust

I want to make things right with this person, but I'm getting a weird vibe from him and if I feel he's trying to squeeze me out, I rather pay higher insurance premiums than give him my money out of principle.

Pictures were taken Aug 28th correct? (Just judging from the picture titles) But the accident happened how many weeks ago?
