Tinted/smoked visors at night?

you can't see anything. I have a pretty dark visor, either be home before sunset or bring a 2nd visor. Usually I don't ride at night, but got caught after sunset a few times.

Some riders on another forum seem to feel that the mirrored visors work better across day/night. Never used one, just carry a clear for night and smoke for day.

not impossible. many parts of the city are well enough illuminated for you to be able to see with a dark visor at night, but still highly not recommended.
plus yes, i've heard its illegal.

I've got a pinlock with a dark smoke insert. I always take it off once the sun is down. Made the mistake of riding with it once and I couldn't see any road hazards. A large majority of the group I ride with feels the same way but there's two females that say they're fine with it, they aren't bad riders at all...maybe females see things differently?!?!?! lol

I just picked up a "transition" visor for my bell vortex. It gets dark in the sun, cloudy and night time its clear. Salesman a GP bikes gave it to me for 50% cause I had bought the original helmet there a year ago

You can also carry clear safety glasses in the trunk of your bike as a back-up, in case you get caught past sun-down. Works well enough below 100 km/h.

Honestly, I don't find it all that bad - but it's really hard to see road imperfections.

I've been caught out with my tinted visor after dark a few times, especially early or late in the riding season. The Bell Transition visor is THE answer, I'm very happy with mine! I just can't believe that no other manufacturers have brought their own versions to market.

I've got the same visor and it's great! I think Bell is the only mfg with a transition visor but not 100% sure.

I agree it's hard to see properly with a dark tint visor, at least with my Shoei it was. I too now have the bell transistions and love it! That visor is the main reason I went with Bell for the new lid.

Yup, Bell transition visor is awesome. Excellent product that works well. The only downside is it's very expensive.

I've been caught at night without my clear visor and I can't see a thing. But I'm old! The Bell Transitions looks like a good solution.

Perhaps this is a young person thing. I've seen lots of young folks at L&L with tinted visors.

Bingo! Night vision seriously deteriorates with age. One of the reason old folks don't like to drive at night. Even a light tinted windshield can mess them around.

When they go for their driving tests do you think they get tested at night?

I wear my tinted visor when I do evening rides and I see just fine through it when riding downtown. I lift the visor up if the section of the road that I am coming to is not well lit, and I don't travel fast enough for the wind to bother me.

I also keep my tinted visor in at all times. Got used to it after the first few time riding, your eyes learn to adjust accordingly. I also drive a car with pretty tinted windows and the first few days/weeks it was difficult to see out the back, but I can see just fine as well. On the rare occasion I've had to crack my visor open is when there's rain AND its dark. Haven't been out to country roads late at night though, I reckon it'd be a bit more difficult.

I agree with this...my tint never comes off and it's not too bad once you get used to it. But I won't ride country at night with it on, just switch helmets!

i've never had a problem w/ tinted visor at night....
mind you i have dual projectors w/ 4300k HIDs in them too lol

only time i have trouble seeing is turns in areas where there are no street lights , which i will flip up my visor if im doing turns at places w/o street lights
