Thoughts on 125CC?

Lol, just decided to resort to lurking this forum huh...?

Can't blame her, my gf stopped posting and thought the rider crowd was full of judgmental misogynists. Thankfully L&L and KC regulars proved her otherwise.

The CBR125 seemed fine to me when I rode it on the course and I'm over weight.

My 125 2-stroke does fine but it's got a touch more power than a Ninja 250 so I guess that's a little different.

The UK is a serious motorbike nation...plenty of riders have to ride 125s due to cc restriction and graduated licensing. There's pretty good representation in motorcycle events from the Brits so take that as what you will. As far as I'm concerned the graduated licensing approach would be a good thing to bring over here and I feel it would bring down insurance rates over time by reducing accidents from those that got in over their heads. The downside would be a decline in the popularity of owning a bike perhaps. There's a certain minority that would never want to pop down to timmies in their leather race suits on a 125 for the weekly posefest.

Would never fly over here due to the Harley/Cruiser majority.

I'm sure there would be those who would still ride down for a quick little posefest. Check out my rad monster tattoo and matching sticker! There always needs to be something to make you stand out from the rest!

True, but you wouldn't have as many 16 year olds demanding a ss and nothing else as their first ever vehicle.

Stalkers....everywhere!

lol no because if you saw the youtube person, She is a small Asian girl on a red cbr125r that said she lived in Brampton or Toronto, cant remember which. :|

I think you'll have fun and it'll be a great learner bike. Remember in the UK they're not even allowed higher displacement bikes until they lose their learners permit.

Enjoy it for what it is, and don't take it on the highway. :D

It does fine on the highway - on the right lane most of the time.

Aww come on Bro! I'm sure some kid will blow his cash on making his 125CC look more like a SS.

I do like the idea of a graduated licence system. Going from M1 - M2 - M, is a good idea but no restrictions on the size of bike. I started with my 250 and I'm glad I started with that and not a SS or higher CC bike. Had a friend of mine drop their bike and now has a pretty beat up ankle.

I owned a 2007 CBR125 and rode the hell out of it for my first season. (I was 20 years old, male, around 170 lbs)

Pros:
cheap insurance
great handling
fit into a minivan with the seats down when I had to transport it
light (positive and negative)
sporty and fun

Cons:
Top speed of 135km/h, not that you need to go faster than that, but it took some proper shifting and time to get up to speed
Size: at 6 feet, I looked a little goofy on it, a very thin bike. a smaller guy or girl would look great.
power: for commuting? no problem. On the highway? not enough IMO

It obviously comes down to what you use it for. If you're planning on using it to develop skills you'll need on a more powerful bike, then its perfect. I went out all summer with a friend on his ninja250 who would smoke me on the highway, but by the middle of the summer I was cornering quicker because I felt safe and confident.

good luck!

Well if you think about it, our graduated licensing system is a joke. Restrictions from m1->m2 : highway and night time riding. Restictions from m2-> M : alcohol (if you're over the age of 21 - otherwise no difference). Therefore, it is entirely possible for some noob with an m1 to own/ride a busa. I know of a couple people that have never ridden a bike before and say they want to get their license to get a busa as their first bike. Only thing stopping them is the money to buy the bike - not the licensing system.

Now just imagine how fast these people will kill themselves given that they're the show-offy kind of people.

For the record: I did my M1-M2->M on my cbr125.
