Thoughts on 125CC?

Hi there I recently bought my first bike, a Honda CBR125. I figured it would be a good bike to learn how to ride on since it's small and I'm pretty small myself (5"1 , 110 pounds) haha..! I haven't ridden on it too much yet but I'd like to hear some thoughts from people about the bike itself whether you have a 125 or know someone with a 125, what do you think?

never owned one but know some that did. One a small person like yourself. She rode it all over, one trip Vancouver-Hope-Princeton-Merritt and back thru Hope to Vancouver. All of it hwy. On the return coming back from Merritt it was on the infamous Hwy 5 - "the Coke" (Coquilhalla hwy) made famous by the TV show "Highway Thru Hell" She did ok on that trip and managed to hit 150kph on the big downhill. She has since moved on to a CBR250.

I loath the life out of 125s. But I'm 5'10 and 220lbs and couldn't squeeze 80km/h out of it. What exactly are you asking?

I have one, can hold 135kmph on the highway no problem. Is it a 1000, heck no. Great for people who aren't overweight and like good fuel economy. The newer model CBR 125 isnt too different from a 250 and I've had people think it was a 600... & they rode SS bikes. Not too sharp eh? It looks are deceiving from the side. The older style 125's are more like mopeds. Love mine, put 11,000 km on it this summer. 600's and litre bikes are much more fun in the country as you can open up and shift, 125 is the clear winner in city driving. Small, agile and unreal fuel economy.

Any particular area you have questions on? I got mine in May and have been trying to ride it as much as the weather will allow.

I own a 2007 CBR125R, I am about 5'10 and 135lbs. I enjoy it but want to upgrade to a bigger bike. I did my M2 and Full M testing on this bike in the last 3 months with relative ease but heavy rain and strong winds the bike is not very unstable at highway speeds and headwinds hurt its top speed. I’ve been able to reach 130km/h and struggled at 105km/h because the windshield is too small for me to hide behind. The only particular changes I would like the bike to have is a longer first gear ratio and more torque.

From what I've read, the each newer facelift has a mildly lower drag coefficient than the last. ‘04-‘06 have ugly headlights, ‘07-‘10 look like miniature CBR600 and ‘11-‘12 look like ’11 CBR250, which is prettier than 04-06 but not as pretty as 07-10!

They are mopeds made up to look like motorcycles. As soon as you rid eone, you want a bigger bike, so might as well get a 250.

Or, get something cool at 125 like the Grom. Look at that woman..she WANTS him.

Rode on one for most of the M1 Exit weekend. Fun as hell and way easy to throw around. I was leaning it a LOT farther than I dare to lean my 600cc porker.

Agree with the description of a moped disguised as a motorcycle. I called it the best scooter ever. If I wasn't tall and fat I would totally get one as a beater-commuter.

Rode 1 for 2 years and put about 16,000km on it. As long as you stay on the right lane most of the time on the highway, you'll be fine. It should be able to hold 120km/h and 125-130km/h given the right conditions on flat land. Long uphills will probably bring you down to around 100-110km/h. I'm about 150lbs so your results might be a bit better than mine lol.

No problems with the M2Exit (highway test) either. I failed the first time for "speeding" which I swear I didn't but passed with flying colors the 2nd time in rain xD.

I kind of doubt she did 150km/h as you hit the limiter at 140km/h unless she did a lot of modifications to the bike - like the big bore engine upgrade.

Ya she probably wants to murder him and stuff him like she did to that poor little dog she is dragging down the street. I don't need that kind of attention.

Just ride it. Lots. It's a good bike, and you get to rev the beejezus out of it in every gear and still keep your license.

Brian P has toured with his. It's all in how you ride it.

Its basically a CBR125R StreetFighter that had its fairings removed with an ugly stick. :|

Right tool for the job, 125 and 250 are fantastic for fully urban environments due to their light weight. Remember, if you're going faster than 100 km/hr you're speeding and breaking the revenue generator law. Would I like speed higher than 120 km/hr faster? Yes, but do I really commute where I need that? No. Secondary roads are faster than 401 gridlock on a flickable light bike.

Although the chances of this are small if you're outside of Toronto, always keep your tires off large gaping holes in the ground (In Toronto, street tracks). Half my tire was eaten up in a large crack in the road on the 427 last year when they were doing construction and I almost lost control going 100+. It was a straight line about 2 inches wide that spanned for over a km - I had to get off at the next exit and tried to cross at as much of an angle as possible but it still scared the **** out of me... I think it was somewhere in Etobicoke when it happened.

I drove a Honda Wave 125cc wen I visited Vietnam. It was the first bike or w.e with an engine in it that I had ridden on, frickin fun to ride LOL.

I wish I could find one here LOL. Im 170lbs and my gf is a tiny girl, Drove around with her on the back and still manged to reach 80km+

Also on that same note, I seen Honda 125cc's with 4 ppl on it LOL. It would be like a driver, and his family on the back of it, looks crazy but those 125cc still manages to take them from point A to B without any problems LOL
