These E-Bikes stealing the show!

Just because there are a few idiots, it doesnt mean we all need to be punished and treated like children.

Im sure the guy who got hit for running a red learned his lesson. He can sue all he wants but its up to the judge to decide.

Why should they be exempt from the same rules others have to follow to be on the road? Cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. All need a license, all need insurance. The very least any vehicle on the road should have some sort of insurance. I am not interested in going to court and all the time it takes for someone else mistake to fight it out and try and get some money for my expensive bike or car from someone who might not be able to pay for it. If your going to be on the road, the same rules should apply. I even think bicycles should have some sort of insurance to cover liability in the very least.

Should you need a license and insurance to ride a skateboard, roller blades, or a push scooter?

Where do we draw the line?

A big issue is not lazy but getting sweaty. Good eBike lets you get to work without getting sweaty and then pedal home if you want.

If I can't get my scooter running on the cheap, I wonder if I can convert it to an ebike....that would work for my commute to and from work.

I would not trust that thing. It's a cheap, heavy Chinese bike with power, yet using standard Supercycle-grade cable brakes. This is the garbage they sell at Walmart and Crapadian Tire.

Commuting and living in central DT Toronto, I hate ebikers as much as the next MC'er but I say let them have their fun and learn their lessons their own way. I see no need for more regulation until we have a legitimate social problem upon us. Heck, maybe it already is but I don't recognize it yet because I haven't been creamed yet.

Sitting in my blocking position I nearly get my arms hit by swerving filtering scooter ebikers all the time. I don't mind getting bumped but I have to be mindful that if I'm sitting in a curb lane and they pass by on my left side, that if my hand comes off the clutch... something is going to happen rather quickly.

The days of IC bikes will come to an end at some point. I'm going to miss fine clutch control, bitching about gearing and deliberating about exhaust notes but hopefully manufacturers will take full advantage of the low speed torque output on the more aggressive RBW throttle maps on future e-motos and life will still be good.

I have an e-bike. Converted mountain bike. Hydraulic disk brakes. Programmable high performance controller and batteries. I had it up to 80km/h. Mind you at that speed battery is dead quick. I had it programmed for 50km/h during the commute. Ever since we moved and i got a diff job its been collecting dust.

I built it to commute to work and back as i worked 20km away through rural roads. Took the car off the road and the insurance payments i wasnt making paid for the bike in 6 months.

Just like with everything, there are idiots and respectful people of all walks of life. Dont be ignorant and saying "all e-bikes are xxx" then get your feathers ruffled when you as a motorcycle rider gets grouped in the same category as the idiots doing 200 through traffic on the 401.
