Ive been noticing these last few days how aggressive these people are Ebikes are. Holyyy this girl was blastin 70kpm past me on dufferin today. I think I shoulda got an e-bike instead of my overpowered scooter(ninja 250r)

E bikes shouldn't go anywhere near that speed. I thought they were limited to 35? Either way they shouldn't be allowed on the road without insurance just like the rest of us

70 kpm = 4200 km/h

Ebikes are limited to 35 km/h. You must be confused about Ebikes and scooters.

Lot of them definitely go faster than the 35kph limit....fortunately they forget to charge them so I see a lot being walked up the hill on Islington over the CN tracks...area's full of them. Maybe lots of drunks lost their license or what not but this guy seems to be very busy since he opened the storefront near my place ( http://www.a-zsources.com/frontpage )...

I see their uses for sure...but would prefer to see them regulated. Only a matter of time before more injuries come and the gov't decides to step in.

Agreed with Roomie. They should need insurance, it has a motor and a license not under suspension should be enforced.

I believe there should be a form of power assisted personal transport where the gov. doesn't have your nuts in a really tight grip.

I refer to them as "DUI rides". They act like a motorcycle when it suits them and a bicycle when it suits them. I hate the damn things.

Electric bicycles however, are fine. They look like a regular bike with a small motor and battery assist. Sometimes you can't even tell it's electric.

I feel they need to differentiate between an e-bike that is primarily electric with some limp pedals hanging off for looks, and an electric bicycle that is an assisted bike. E-bikes are not people powered, nor are they for medical reasons, so they shouldn't be afforded the use of bike lanes and whatnot. License them, regulate them, they're the worst drivers on the road.

This e-bike ****er today came out from a park trail to a signaled pedestrian crossing. He looked at me driving down the road, he activated the lights and started going for it. Fortunately he backed off.

Lots of them are using bike trails around the GTA.

Yes, another girl on a ebike this morning goin west on richmond street, lane spliting, riding in the bike lanes, then uses the road. She was riding like a maniac.

How difficult is it to convert a regular bike to an e-bike?

Wouldn't mind taking the bike to work (18km) but all sweaty isn't a great way to start the day at the office with no showers....on the way home though would be a great workout.

You can get a kit, you can also buy an electric bike. Some I've seen have a battery pack on the downtube that powers the hub when you need it. My neighbor has one because he's in his 60s bike everywhere, it helps up the hills

They should keep the E bikes off the sidewalks and any other pedestrian walkways. That's my main beef with the E bikes. They expect the pedestrians to get out of the way.

Technically it's illegal for them to be on sidewalks / pedestrian walkways. I know there's a wheel diameter restriction so maybe that's how they play that game...but the idiots in my neighbourhood bomb through with their helmet half on their head...I hope they hit a car every time...mind you I actually saw one pulled over at Lakeshore / Royal York and the cops kept him there for a while. Couldn't stop laughing. Don't know what he got busted for but most people were pointing and laughing.

Like a later post states, I believe that is illegal due to wheel diameter. But I may be confusing that with a gas motor.
My biggest beef is all the kids on ebikes completely disregarding any bike and/ or motorcycle rules. Damn. I got fat, and I rode a pedal bike as a kid.

Yeah the gas powered ones I'm pretty sure are a no-no, the electric ones I know are good though. You can buy them in some bike shops.

The wheel diameter limit is 20". Pretty much anything larger than a BMX bike is not supposed to be on the sidewalk. That's goes for all bicycles. But rules not enforced are as good as no rules at all.
And as far as I know I believe no motorized vehicles are supposed to be on the walkways either, except for mobility scooters for the disabled which is fair.

These e bike riders just scream lazy. Too lazy to pedal a bicycle. For what you spend on a e bike I'm sure you can get a nice bike that has multiple gears and everything.
