pfft barely broken in ...bit piggy and top heavy but such smooth power and even at 150 kph no buffeting at all. It's hot in the city. With that RDL seat and other farkles and nicely maintained....good for another 100k km....now where to go with it for you guys :(

Have to agree. When I was street riding my 998, it had so much torque (to me). I loved blipping the throttle to get that instant rush of acceleration. I have to say, since moving down to the 821, even with the lighter weight, lower gearing, and electronic controls, I still miss the raw power of the 998 - there really is no replacement for displacement. I've had evil thoughts of swapping the 998 motor into the Hyper, after swapping the 1198 motor into the 998...

Riding a CBR125 for half a season is what got me to buy an SXV. The CBR was slow, but the light weight made it a riot in corners. I was imagining how much more fun it would be if it had more power with the same weight, which led me to the SXV with 4x power and a little less weight to boot.

I hate that saying about it being more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow - it's an old adage from the days when fast bikes had to trade maximum power for low speed civility. That's all been cured with modern technology, as your SuperDuke will attest to, and so riding a fast bike slow is no longer laborious. All things being equal, if you can ride a bike to a certain speed, I'd rather it were a fast bike than a slow one and have the extra oomph if/when I need/want it.
I still think it rings true (maybe not for a 125). I used to love riding the snot out of a 250ninja. On the street how many seconds of thrill does 150hp deliver? On my litre bikes... about 5 second at WOT and my licence goes into jeopardy.

2001 Bandit 600 73K $1000 A nice reliable 80 hp bike.
That Corbin seat is worth a few hundred alone.

You're all correct! Great bike, sorry to see it go, but I have my Tracer GT to baby now.

As MacDoc says there's another 100k km left in her, at least, it's been very well maintained and it's set up and ready for a cross country trip.

Hey, my first street bike! That's about what I paid for my running '88 in 1989 dollars. I wasn't personally impressed by it back then, but I bought it for the street. I actually think the VTR1000F you posted in the stupidly overpriced thread is a way better deal (for my purposes).

This might be a good project bike for someone.

Imagine if your Ninja 250 had 150 HP - don't you think it would have been even more fun? What would change other than having more power on tap?

OK deal, those bikes were pretty tough and quite easy to work on.

Non running can mean a lot. Could be a simple as cleaning a carb ($30 bucks) or a lot more if you're talking about a full teardown. Those early YPVS motors aren't simple and parts are really pricy. That isn't really a collectable, although all 2 stroke street legal bikes are gaining value.

The stupid prices you see on old DTs are up to 1975, the last of the old school 'twinshocks'.
