Going to be dropping the price to $8,000. If it doesn't sell I will just keep it til next year. FZ-09 is really nice, just want to get an offroad bike. Girlfriend will kill me if I have more than 1 bike in the garage *sigh*

The amount of people asking to pay the trade-in value at the dealership is pretty funny. Why would I go through all the hassle to get the same amount of money as the dealer? Not to mention it costs $250 to do a convenience sale (trading in the bike to dealer, which in turn sells it to a private party). Almost all offers have been lower than a DEALERSHIP... Oh GTA Shoppers.

Are these offers in person? Because even if you said yes to some kijidiot email, they will never show up. The reality is bikes devalue 20% right off the lot.

Basically I had a couple people just call and say they will match what the dealer trade-in was. One person said "ohh... well I might be able to match the dealer"... wow really? The most serious offer I got couldn't get financing, which was $8100 *shrug*

I understand the depreciation of motorcycles, but that's actually lower than the dealer trade-in. Although the dealer is selling a brand new bike, and could quickly sell the bike at break even.

Going to ride the next bike until the wheels fall off..... ;)

It does not make sense to buy new bikes, unless you require financing.

$17500 invested? Guy buys a Kawasaki then paints over the "ugly green". They do come in other colors. The Rizoma farkle is worthless.
The paint killed the value, and $17500 in, he didnt even change the pipes. You can get demos for less.

Actually no. I think this is pretty well priced considering it's a 2014 with 1200 kms. The paint is tasteful, and not to coverup damage. I think it's worth it.. if I were in the market I'd call him.

People like you (yeah you) think bidding starts at $1 for everything on kijiji.

Yeah I don't see how the paint killed the value. It's not covered in skulls and flames.

people associate painted 'anything' with covering up damage, whatever the reason.
they also plan on re-selling the bike at some point and want any easy sell.

Agree that the farkles are worthless. To me, the paint definitely devalues the bike, but "killed the value" is a bit much in this case.

Large bikes have trouble selling due to insurance rates, and it's a lot of money for most, and he customized it for his unique taste, which means he has to find someone over 40, with the cash, who likes the paint change (assuming it was done properly, I doubt it). The buyer might want to live with the paint, but has to keep in mind it will hurt resale value.
Demos are selling under $10K, given the typical devaluation of 20% , and the paint, lucky if he gets $7000-7500.
The value may not be dead, but it's pretty close.

I tend to agree with this.... Saw a brand new Z1000 for $10,499 .......... and a couple more brand new at $10,999 ...(ZERO KM) they have not moved.

From what I can see, the Z1000 is not really a hot seller.

Also *most* custom paint devalues the bike, no doubt about that.

The issue with insurance is absolutely hilarious.... I'm 29 with GM license, House insurance, car(s) and bike.

If I sell my FZ-09 and get a KTM 690 Enduro R, I save almost $600 a year. Factor over the financing of the bike...... We get so raped here.

Over five years, a choice of bike based on insurance rates could pay for the entire bike.
Many dealers are still trying to sell 2013 z1000s, I have yet to see one on the road. It seems like for these large nakeds, people are going for the BMW.

Admittedly I don't really pay THAT much for bike insurance, and usually don't give it much thought... but when I found out the KTM 690 is $600 cheaper for the year (and that's not even shopping for a price)... it really got me thinking. I'd be curious to know how many new liter bikes sell in the GTA per year (I'm guessing not many) considering the insurance costs.
