The Reasonably Priced Used Motorcycles for Sale Thread

Looks good. Might get a few hundred cheaper but I'd say that price is fair.

Yeah that's about the going rate for a running, road worthy bike. The only thing against it, is the age.

See what it needs to pass safety and work that into your price.

I've talked with the owner - tires are brand new, brake pads spark plugs and oil has been recently changed

What else might be major maintenance repairs?

Find out when valves were done and when they need to be done
Fork seals and fork oil
Check the head bearings and swingarm bearings
Check the condition of the chain and sprockets

It looks like its been well taken care of, as far as I can tell from the photos. Ask for help checking it out if this is your first time or you're unsure.

Ask the owner if he's had any issues with the 2nd gear. I had the same bike many many years ago and it'd slip out of second into neutral occasionally. Heard others had similar issues.

the ex/500 ninja is a great bike to start on (tried to check your past posts to see if you're a new rider but got page after page of you trying to win free tickets to the bike show ;) )

Is there any way to check the head bearings without lifting the bike up on a jack - would putting it up on the centre stand be possible to check?

500 will keep you happy way longer than a 250 as well. I started o. A gs500. Great size for a first bike.

Even with the wheels on the ground you can check. Just make sure it steers smoothly and there is no looseness or clicking. Sit on the bike, hold the front brake, and gently rock forward and back.

thanks for the help

how often should these items be serviced

carbs cleaned
valves adjusted
fork seals/oil

Other than valves, whenever they need it. I would find a digital version of the owners manual. It'll tell you what maintenance needs to be done and when. Then you'll know what to ask when you talk to them.

after checking the online manual of the ex 500

carb sync (every 6,000)
valve clearance (every 12,000)
front fork oil change are due at 36,000 kms (first due at 36,000)

the current mileage of the bike is just past 40,000

should this bike still be considered if these maintenance issues are outstanding?

im not even sure how much they cost
