The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

I challenge you find a better good quality 5bar resistance for 30ish CAD! :)

Was bored and looked through some earlier threads. 100m WR, and they're $35 @ Wally World. Amazon had the long strap models on for $32 on Black + Cyber days last month.

I like the 10 year battery part.

While it may be mathematically possible, I'm not convinced. Most button cell batteries are pretty dead before 10 years even if they have never been used. Maybe casio has access to a less dodgy supplier or maybe they ran the math and marketing ran with that. I have tried no name, maxell, sony, panasonic and a few other brands. I test all the new batteries before I use them and throw out between 10 and 50% as no good before they go near a device.

The casio solars should be good for at least 10 years on a daily watch.

I guess I fell for the marketing once more.
I bought a similar one 5 years ago and it is still going, mind you I don't wear it all now, as it has the weirdest stop watch function I've ever seen. You hit start and all is good, hit stop and it acts like a split timer and a pain to stop and see that actual start stop time. Each time I use it, I have to open the 4point font manual.

That watch evokes about the same emotion as buying a new toaster.

97.3% of the reviews of them are from people that buy them to use it as a blue collar work watch. For that, they're perfect. Super easy to read, can wash your hands or work in water without having to take them off, and if it gets damaged you're out a whole $35. Just buy another one.

With some of those button cells it they have a infinitesimal load their chemistry is such that their shelf life is increased.
Counter intuitive as that is.

The jury has returned a verdict.*

TL;DW - Basically, your run of the mill $16.99 CAD (w. free shipping) Ali Express special. "Owww, the crown is cutting my fingers!"

* for full effect put Just Another Victim by Helmet + House of Pain from the Judgement Night soundtrack on in the background on repeat while watching the video.

My rule of one must go to get a new one in. White dial Panerai out. Always wanted to try a Navitimer. Owned a couple of Breitling's in the past but not for long. Navitimer is classic. New version dial not nearly as busy as older versions. Thats a plus to me.

Picked up a Super Titanium Citizen Eco Drive military style field watch in the sales. Sapphire crystal, solar powered. Reviews say very very light. Titanium case and bracelet. Bargain at $195

To their credit Citizen has their hard coating process for titanium down good.
Picked up one of their ti divers last spring and the finish is still scratch free with daily wear.
Did swap the band out tho.

I’ll bet with that watch he eats on time every day for a decade.

With a non-rotating bezel, calling it a "dive watch" is a misnomer. Reminds me of a certain carbon fibre submarine. That didn't work out too well.

I am looking for a GTA watchmaker to repair a couple of items (70s Rolex, 80s Speedmaster). Who are you guys using/trust?

Sadly, my (and many local collectors) go-to guy passed away in December (Shane Ede). Just found out today, he was a great watchmaker and a great guy.
