The ICON BP Phenomenon

First off, I love it when people use the terms "hate" or "hater" when you call them out on something stupid. Makes me LOL every time! :lmao:.
No, I said you were hating, because your post is full of hate. Look it up, it's the opposite of love.

And you weren't calling me out on anything since I don't do what you described.

I don't think there is any mystery here, people wear back protectors to protect their backs - feel free to debate the effectiveness of doing so all you like.

So in other words, you're one of the guys who wears a wife beater and ICON BP.

I own one yes & wear it when it is 30+ degrees out especially when I don't want to loose 10 pounds in 10 seconds in my leather jacket. I also do not wear JUST a tshirt with it.
I am also not a boy so I am not " one of the guys that wears a wife beater and an icon bp"

Are u going to make a new thread about people who wear jackets with cheap hard foam as a back insert ?

Pointless thread period.

I've been seeing this more and more. Riders wearing t-shirts, jeans, running shoes and an ICON BP. It's not usually even on securely. The straps are over the shoulders but the waist strap is left undone. Is this some new fashion trend that I'm not aware of? Is the lazy ICON BP the rider's version of the purse dog or something? You have one, you think it looks good, but in reality it's completely useless. What on earth is the point of wearing one at all then?

BP? Purse dog?

here you go ...

ICON has come out with a hi-viz version of their FABP. Same protection in a high-viz offering.

I was looking into the Alpinestars ones that are a full vest with shoulder armour and a removable back protector. They also come with full arm protection as well if you want to get it. I thought it would be good to have to wear under a long sleeve shirt or a hoody. And the back protector is removable for use under leathers. But then again, if you're going through the trouble of wearing all that armour why not just wear your jacket.

wearing just a BP isnt that smart.. but its better than wearing just a wife beater. At least their organs will be protected after they die.

Ambulance drivers should just follow them around.

Fresh meat anyone?

Lolz, what a waste of money. Y would u just wear one of these? Seems kinda pointless. Y not just get some mesh body armor.

Squids wear them because they think it makes them look cool and hard, basically the same reason they bought bikes in the first place.

Honestly, given the choice between a skin graft and broken back, I'd lose some skin.

The chances of losing skin are nearly 100% without protection. The chances of a spinal injury are likely to be less than that. The choice is not 50-50.

I'm not "hating" on anything.

Dude, I wear a back protector every time I ride. I do not, however, see the point in wearing just a BP, and not even doing the thing up around the waist. There's no point to it. I know, pointing out how ridiculous that is, is "hating." Read my original post.

It's your opinion that people wearing the BP's are stupid. It's nothing more that that, YOUR opinion. I'm sure there are some things that you do that people think are "stupid".

The only problem I see with the BP craze is that the squids are cheating and getting a pass while the ATGATT's are up all night doing their homework. Live and let live.

Why is it that only half of the people on this forum bother to read before they post?

I WEAR A BP. I'm ATGATT myself. Good grief. I am laughing at those people who wear a BP LOOSELY SLUNG OVER THEIR SHOULDERS, WITH IT UNDONE AROUND THEIR WAIST, AND WEAR NO OTHER GEAR. I.e, over top of a wife beater or t-shirt, no jacket. In other words, the BP is used as fashion accessory. Get it now?

My buddy squids it with just a BP and a t-shirt. He went down infront of me last year. He skidded on his back and came out of it without any rash. Broken thumb, but the BP saved his back. It was tightened properly.

Lets face some facts here though.
1. It is very little protection but does provide some.
2. It is also a fashion statement.
3. People who swear by ATGATT will always rant.

I wear one over a t-shirt occasionally, but only to stop my t-shirt from flying up my back. Does that make me a squid? Maybe, but I ride differently/ride for different purposes when I squid.

Some people need to care less.

Seems to me we have three types of forum members:
1. The Diligent. They read the entire original post and comment accordingly.
2. The Half Readers. They read approximately 50% of a post and assume they know what the OP is saying, and flame them.
3. The Skimmers. They look for specific keywords and again, assume they know what has been said, and flame away.

Out of the three groups, I'd much rather a Diligent help me put something together because they read the entire instruction manual before attempting. I'd rather go to their house for dinner because they read the entire recipe before preparing the meal. And I'd rather have them on my team at work since they'd make sure they know exactly what the project calls for before beginning.

/threadjack.

Unfortunately, only those in the Diligent group actually read the above. :happy3:

People are just skimming and skipping to the "hater" part because this is just another soapbox post about what other people wear when they ride... I skimmed it and I knew what was coming. IE, nothing worth "diligently" reading.

Do you think the BP being securely on vs not makes your post any more useful? I think not, but that's just on man's opinion.

Between you and me (and this board), it doesn't surprise me that you're an ATGATT guy... you guys are worse than iPhone fanboys.

I'm proud of you for reading the entire post, skimmer.

I am an ATGATT... woman. But that wasn't my point with this post. Comparing the unsecured BP to the fad with lap dogs was meant to be humorous. Sadly, the moderators are correct. This forum is full of negativity.
