I've given up caring what other people wear, but it's still a little annoying when people try to pass it off as some form of protection. If they do it, at least admit that it's no more for protection that a leather vest or fingerless gloves, on a cruiser rider.

People are like that everywhere. You ask for an explanation and it's like you're questioning their very existence.

Notice that nobody who backlashed against you made any attempt to explain why some riders wear only a BP, as if they never thought about it. No, it's "stop questionning, you're the problem".

People are idiots like that.

I personally don't have a problem with gear anyone chooses to wear or not wear (BP or otherwise), its their life, their skin, their problem. However, I do have a problem with the "holier than thou" "my soapbox is taller than yours" attitude. I'm just bringing her back down to ground level with the rest of us. It might not be my job, so I volunteered for the task.

I don't understand the mentality that this is some kind of fight....a relentless "us vs them" battle royale where the winner takes all in this no-holds barred arena of relevance?

The hell happened to being able to just ask something, have someone reply in a non-confrontational way, then having a discussion sprout forth from that?

Really? You're trying to tell me that she didn't come here to call out "BP only" wearing riders and put them on blast? You can't possibly read what she wrote and tell me that, and if you can, I know exactly who you're fooling. If you think this board hasn't wasted enough time on "why do squids squid?" you haven't been around long enough. This thread is no different than any of those.

Unfortunately, I can't answer the actual question at hand fairly since I'm not one of those guys, but yes, I'll gladly continue to tell you guys what you meant when you're not willing to own up to it.

Was thinking the same thing, myself. People honestly think that they can intelligently discuss things like riding styles and fatal accidents, when they can't even be civil when discussing another dead celebrity addict?

People are just skimming and skipping to the "hater" part because this is just another soapbox post about what other people wear when they ride... I skimmed it and I knew what was coming. IE, nothing worth "diligently" reading.

Do you think the BP being securely on vs not makes your post any more useful? I think not, but that's just on man's opinion.

Between you and me (and this board), it doesn't surprise me that you're an ATGATT guy... you guys are worse than iPhone fanboys.

It's comical how after stating 2 pages ago that there was nothing worth "diligently" reading, that you are still here reading and responding. Seems it is you who is running off with the holier than though attitude now.

Sorry OP, but your first post really sounds like it is the BPs you're against (or rather people using them without the rest of the gear). If it was improperly worn/attached gear that got your goat, the post should have been focused on that (as any kind of gear can be used incorrectly - people who don't do up the strap of their $1000.00 SNELL/DOT/adamantium full face helmet).

Either way though, I maintain that the reason to wear safety gear is for safety, most of the time for most people. Even if they don't use it right, or as much of it as you would.

And yes it can be a fashion thing too.

We all know you're trying to say "Why just a BP?" and trying to validate that statment further with "... LOOSELY SLUNG OVER THEIR SHOULDERS, WITH IT UNDONE AROUND THEIR WAIST..." for effect.

+1 on this...I am calling BS on this "loosely fitted, no strap done up" I ride with about 15 guys and like 8 of them have the icon BPs or the field armour. None of them ride with it undone, not for any other reason other than the thing flaps around just booting around the parking lot. It's damn near impossible to ride with it undone.
