The DVP

its really not that bad...maybe im on at the wrong times...but as long as your scanning, you see this ***** coming.
its no deathtrap as long as you pay attention. amirite?

Rite.

Granted, sometimes it's pretty dangerous even for the best of riders/drivers. I commute on the DVP daily as a passenger so I catch a lot more. I find some people do stupid things but are easy to predict (such as slow drivers or lane drifters) so they're not the danger IMO. I find it's those that know exactly what they're doing, like to play chicken, and break check / tailgate you when they're call out...to be the most dangerous.

I think the big thing about travelling on the DVP or any busy street/hwy where there's lots of idiots is to 1) anticipate that's going to happen. not just checking your mirrors but start noticing which cars are driving erratically so you don't get caught in their path. 2) remember that being right doesn't always matter. avoidance is better.

What I don't understand are the motorbike riders who ride home after 430 when it's bumper to bumper. How is that remotely enjoyable? Steaming in traffic bumper to bumper for 45 minutes must be hell EVERY DAY.

i ride the dvp on my ninja 250r, i had close calls with side swipers and jerks who want to race me (like i don't see the point in beating a 250...lol), but like djbordie said: just scan and hazards can be avoidable most of the time.

I made a guy in a mustang gt look stupid until I hit the top of 3rd, at whcih point is 3 mpg kicked in and he blew past.. His gf was miring my bike at the lights so he, punched it, that little 250 is quite capable.

You are correct.

I don't have an issue commuting on the DVP.

Can't remember the last time i used my horn, or got cut off.

Proper positioning and visibility.

Ya the DVP, can be pretty nuts.
Used to take it Mon-Fri for 2 1/2 years to work downtown T.O.

A few times almost flew over my handlebars, when cars cut into my lane without seeing me. Glad I'm not working downtown anymore.

because I'm not thinking of that. I'm thinking of the cool morning air and the casual drive into work. Coming home, is not something I'm considering before I jump on the seat. That crappy reality hits just as I am mounting up to go home.

Hey, i was thinking about riding to work. I dont think I can handle DVP in rush hours yet but would it be a bit better if I take yonge street all the way down? What do you think?

BAYVIEW!

i dont do dvp at afternoon rushour.

or if i do its for a stop or two.

Here is your magical route, thank me after you try it: LOL

from DT. (minimal traffic is my key here...also getting home quick)

bayview extension from river : (excellent ramp)
take bayview all the way up to moore.
go right on moore, through leaside.
end up on eglinton, head east to don mills.
don mills is 3 lanes, take the diamond up to lawrence.
go east on lawrence to the dvp, enjoy the Ramp, minimal traffic from there to the 401 and then your golden.
*depends when you get to dvp though, can be rammed i think from 401- highway 7 these days...if you need to go that far

boom!

Yonge is pretty damn good too, i find no one bothers driving on it anymore thinking it will be so busy. It really is not during rush hour.

Pottery to mortimer to Don Mills moves faster for me than the Leaside chicane.

I take the DVP daily. Don Mills and the reserved lane is my choice road aside from the stretch between Gardiner and Don Mills.

I also hate driving around Asian ladies. Especially my wife and my mother inlaw.

I commute through DVP everyday. I find it safer than the 400's. I find people check their blind spot more on the DVP than the 400 highways. Plus there's usually traffic anyways so you're barely moving lol. Just ride like any other roads....look ahead and try to predict what the driver ahead of you will do.

personally, I don't enjoy highways in the city. too much traffic to make it fun.

(like i don't see the point in beating a 250...lol)

The general public can't tell the difference between a 250 ninja or a 1000+cc racing bike. Sports bikes all look the same to most people who don't ride bikes. They just see a crotch rocket and think everyone on them has them to race. To be honest i was always one of them. Not being a fan of sportbikes and until i got into bikes a few years ago and then joined this forum i couldn't have told you one from the other.

I ride it everyday during peak hours and I don't know what all this rant is about. My only complaint is my hand gets sore from pulling in the clutch so much.
When I see other riders on there, most of these guys are lane spliting or not even riding with proper blocking position. If you crawl along the DVP like any other cars, drivers DO see you. If you ride on the shoulder or lane split to filter traffic then you deserve the finger from other drivers anyway.

I've been riding on it 5 years in a row and maybe only had 1 or 2 close call. If you consistantly find it difficult to ride along side other cars then maybe you need to re-evaluate your defensive riding skills.

pfft
I use the Go Bus lane.
It's rush hour gridlock. When was the last time you saw a police car on the DVP during that time.
Even if they are on the DVP, they are stuck behind cars.
Just follow behind the Go Bus.
Ninja Style!

DVP is awesome... that **** was our race track back in the Elements days

Kick off with a few laps of the Lawrence ramps and then blast down to Bayview in about 45 seconds ahhhhh yes good times...

best thing for the dvp i find is, stick to the right lane keep a safe distance behind the car in front of you and dont pass anyone .. just ride that right hand lane all the way down
