The Bad Riders of Ontario Thread

If you're going to do a long wheelie on a busy highway, don't crash.

At approx 6:40pm Sept 10, a motorcycle was east bound on Hwy 7/8 in Kitchener, near Fisher Hallman Road. Rider was doing a wheelie and crashed. EMS treated the rider but before police arrived, a group of males loaded the motorcycle into a pickup truck and left the scene.
The rider - Gregory SHAW-McMahon (22 years old) of Conestoga is charged with dangerous driving, #StuntDriving, obstruct and fail to identify.

Car pulled out of the Husky at Britannia Rd West and McLaughlin Rd headed east on the wrong side of the road. I was pretty much side to side with the car and laying on the horn. The driver looked over but she kept on driving until the next intersection (Falbourne St)
She avoided head on collision with three on coming cars. Must be normal driving in the area because I didn't hear the other cars honk.
To make it interesting it was around 10:30 at night!

The world has changed.

In the early 80s my friend and I would set off during grouse season on our bikes with our soft gun cases on our backs.

Ride north. Hunt. Ride home. Never a look from anyone.
At one point earlier than the 80's my neighbor would purchase dynamite "for environmental purposes" at the local hardware store.
He was blowing up beaver dams.

Hwy 10/hockley area black enduro bike, full face helmet, construction vest. Had three to four cobs chasing them and got away. Cops called it off to avoid a crash. Didnt hear the whole thing but at one point passed a cop on 5 at 155. Plates out of Hamilton. Interestingly, when they called off pursuit, all cop cars pulled over for a few minutes . Probably a smart move to make a clear demarcation in case there was a subsequent crash.

Do they have someone waiting at the plate owner's address?

Different department, I have no idea what they normally do. After their pause to discontinue the pursuit, cops resumed patrolling the area to see if they spotted the bike. I had other things to do and didnt keep listening to see if anything further happened.

You're on a police scanner?

The guy formerly known as Mladin.

Not Ontario, but definitely bad riding.

I don't currently have a scanner but it's not hard to find scanner feeds online and I have a ton of data on the current phone plan. It's interesting but the online feed is delayed from live by about two minutes. Not sure exactly why. That's enough delay that it isn't entirely useful if you were trying to use it to plan a safe route. Definitely gives you an idea of how many cops are in an area and where they are working though.

I thought police radio traffic is encrypted now, so it's not possible to listen in anymore?

Some departments that is true. Not all departments have gone that route yet. Barrie dispatch is unencrypted but for fire/paramedic on calls they switch to other channels which I'm pretty sure are encrypted. I don't have a scanner handy to check if I could get the Tac channels.

I have the Scanner Radio app on my phone, I can hear OPP but none of the local police scanners. Mostly fire stations, TTC, etc. But many US police on there. Listening to Chicago PD makes me happy to live where I do lol.

Oncoming rider was lucky they met a bike and not a motorhome.

Maybe that's why the rider took the liberty of crossing over.

With time, this becomes a habit, until one day the vehicle on the other side is much bigger and then you're stuck between a rock and a hard place and the rest is left on fate.

Can't see? Don't go.

Whoops. That was an expensive pile of tickets for not having paperwork in order. Rider was 21 so that's probably it for riding for him until all these tickets clear.

OPP said the motorcycle owner was charged with having no insurance, no licence plates, improper licence and operating an unsafe vehicle on a highway. Police said the accused was issued four Provincial Summons notices, and was directed to walk the motorcycle back to the residence.
