The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Unfortunately, due to camera failure, I didn't get two good ones last night which occurred within 2 Kms of each other, in Brampton.

The first was a guy who took the advanced green to make a turn from Birchbank westbound to Dixie southbound, except that because he was the only car in the turn lane, he didn't get the advanced. Traffic from Orenda got both the advanced left turn and straight through greens.

The second was when I was turning from Avondale north, to Balmoral west. It's a three way stop. I got there after a van, so waited for him to take right-of-way and go east on Balmoral. After he cleared the intersection a cop came up on Balmoral westbound. As I was next in the queue I took my turn. Well, startred to at least, because the cop jumped the gun and went through the stop. No lights, no siren, just went.

dang. that would be a nice catch..

and I need to order a new camera today for my second car... Had a guy jump his turn at a 4 way stop this morning nearly causing a collision.

Did Meme get your camera?

The "camera failure" was more of a failure in execution. I put lanyards on my cameras so they wouldn't fall off and get lost, when used on the bike. One came loose and dropped in front of the lens, at just the wrong time.

I was super close to this this morning. A SOB parent in an X5 needed to get Johnny to school RFN, so they passed me on the left and immediately turned right in front of me into the school. Stupid f'n a'hole. It was the closest I have been to being a hood ornament in years.

Adult cyclist on the left hand side walk, his own fault.

Toronto City Council has adopted a staff report recommendation that Toronto's sidewalk cycling bylaw shall stipulate "no person age 14 and older may ride a bicycle on a sidewalk". The fine for an adult who rides a bicycle on a sidewalk shall be $60.

Wish I had a body cam rolling, when this happened, but it was pretty interesting to say in the least.

Coming off a street car, doors open for a good 3 secs, a car comes blowing by on the right lane, almost hits the passengers coming out the back doors. While that was happening, a cop on a bicycle was making a left through the intersection and that car swerved and screeched to a stop almost taking the cop out.

Cop goes off on the driver for blasting by open doors and almost taking him out, but nothing but a warning was given. Was surprised the driver wasn't given anything more than a warning.

That's the sort of thing that I put down to being the cyclist's fault. On the wrong side of the road for direction of travel. Riding on the sidewalk ($65.00 fine). Goes around in front of the car.

And that's exactly why he got up and took off.

Riding on the sidewalk isn't a green light to run the cyclist over. They're both at fault.

EDIT
Actually, the driver is at fault for the collision, the rider may be guilty of riding on the sidewalk illegally if his wheels are more than 24 inches (stupid law).

The reason the rider took off is probably because there was no reason to hang around. What should he have stayed for?

Trying to figure out why you would think that. If the rider was walking the bike across the crosswalk, then yes, but he isn't. He fled in case there was damage to the car, so as to be unidentifiable.

Looked more like the person in front over cut the turn.

Because people illegally occupying an intersection doesn't absolve drivers from the responsibility of avoiding them!
