So the drama seems to be over. Got a new pan and put it back together with a thorough clean. Rode it 200km's today without a glitch.
 
Good to hear! Now how about that skid plate?
 
Ordered one for my Ural today. Dirt roads are fun. But i don't like the sound of rocks banging around down there.

To be clear, I know exactly how this will go - it will be a freak incident, and once you install the skid plate it will remain perfectly unscuffed until the day the bike is sold. But if you don't get one, you'll find yourself behind a scrap truck that lets loose some unfortunate caltrops

At least there being no internal damage was a win
