I've never had the opportunity to meet Jamie. But he did help me out on This site with some technical issues I was having. So I will say that the impression I had from my few dealings with him are that he's the type of person that wouldn't hesitate to help a complete stranger. He was very knowlegable down to earth type of person. After reading how young he is and that he has a little daughter. Just seems like a big loss. If only someone was able to help him out in his time of need like he helped so many others. RIP.
 
From what I understand about people that take their own life (little) , once they make the decision they are going to go, they go. There is often little chance of bringing them back.
They almost become euphoric in the days leading up, reconnect with friends and family almost appearing happier than they have been in a while, but its a side effect of the mind set they have, happy they made the decision to end it. Its like they are saying goodbye.

I don't think there's a universality, but there can be some commonalities. For counterpoint, one thing that has really stuck with me was a segment in a Radiolab episode a number of years ago about death that focused on people who had survived suicide attempts by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Of the survivors, a huge percentage regretted the attempt, with a number who were interviewed saying they wished they didn't jump almost instantly after jumping. Even if people think they have settled on suicide as a solution, true certainty is hard to come by...

If a person changes their mind immediately after initiating a suicide but still dies is it suicide or death by misadventure? No insurer or official body would change their verdict but in some religions committing suicide means never going to heaven. That results in added sorrow to a family with those beliefs.

The death by misadventure possibility would only be known between the victim and God. However the possibility of it being misadventure would give hope to the families with those beliefs.

Years back there was a gloomy day up north because a 14 year old had committed suicide. The kid had been sent to this room for misbehaving and was found hanging some time later. I have often wondered if he meant to do it or was doing a role play and slipped.

Met Jamie on my 1st group ride and a few after...he rode and lived fast

Here are things I remember about him:
- Police kicked his door down because of FB reported pictures of his adult GF as child porn.
- Had a massive dispute with a neighbourhood some where north of Whitby, where his Sunday rides would blow through their twisty streets
- He told a story of being pranked by a friend trying to steal his helmet, which ended up in him breaking their car window to get the helmet back, before he realized they were his friends.
- Something about guns
- Car accident: he was working and going to school full time. He drove fast to stay awake and the accident happened...

I am going to miss him. I have never met one like him. To be perfectly honest, he scared me alot and I was not all that into big group rides, so I only went to the Sunday rides a few times...

In his world I was an NPC and he was definitely the main character on an epic quest, RIP.
 
RIP Jamie, I'm going to miss your video posts with the stray cats and raccoons, and the general humor you had for life. Who would have known you weren't feeling it on the inside? Some crazy stories and I have some pictures from track days you were at, surprisingly fast for a guy on a mostly stock bike but rocking that razor edge of lean.
 
Wow, I just got the news and couldn't believe it. While his risk management skills may have been worthy of a review, he was the nicest guy ever, 'shirt off his back' type, passionate about his hobbies; his passion was contagious and swayed many into trying out his hobbies. I was looking forward to both rides and range days with him. I also wanted to clear up a couple of rumours about him...

1) The bikini girl was a very young-looking 23 year-old, not 17 (even though she looks that age)
2) To the best of my knowledge he didn't import a bunch of illegal guns. Some accessories that can be easily and cheaply obtained in the US must be neutered with a drill/rivet gun to meet Canadian regulations and our distributors charge a HUGE markup. So he was importing US-legal ones, modifying them to meet Canadian law (but, before they got modified, they would technically be prohibited devices in his possession) and then selling them at a lower markup. If you know him, you know that his motive has always been public service contribution to the hobby. When the police reached out to him (on a tip from BATF), he rubbed them the wrong way (surprise surprise lol) and they didn't throw the book at him.. They threw the entire library.. They even broke into his gun cabinets and then charged him with unsafe storage because the cabinets were broken. He couldn't afford proper legal representation (if you're not a career criminal and report an actual income, you're in the hole for tens of thousands), so he took a bad plea deal, landing him free tuition to con college. Eventually he got out and kept his nose clean.

Never met him irl but I remember the conversations we had on here. Dude was really unique, in a good way. Not afraid to do things differently and speak about them.

Also **** depression. I know how it feels to have suicidal thoughts nearly everyday =(
 
I remember him not understanding how he could get a speeding ticket going downhill with his brakes on lol It didn't make any sense in his mind.

He was a bright spark.

What a loss.

GTAM has changed dramatically over the last 14 years since I joined. Don't post much here and lurk from time to time. Love reading new and remembering all the good threads. Who would ever forget 2upz and boston pizza. Seeing all the old inactive profiles in the glory of reads. And ****. Actually, damn, only now finding out about Jamie. RIP.

Regets on the tragic bump.
 
Was watching a Lehto's Law video on Youtube when I ran into a comment from Jamie in the wild.

"I was buying a new Infiniti G35 6MT Premium, only feature I cared about was that the colour was "Caribbean Blue". They found me a car, filled out all the paperwork, deposit, etc. They said it would take a few days to arrive at the dealership. They called me a few days later to let me know it was ready for pick up. When I went to get it the purchase price was $16k more than we agreed to. Their excuse was "that was the only one they could find in Caribbean Blue but it had the sunroof, navigation and upgraded stereo...". Because the original purchase invoice had the correct vin# on it (but I assume they put the wrong price), they had to honour it, $16k in free upgrades :) Number 1 rule I learned, don't sign a purchase agreement (or leave a deposit) if there's no VIN# on it!"

This review examines the role of firearms in injuries, unintentional deaths, suicides and violent crimes in the Canadian context. This report also looks at the extent to which firearm regulation may help reduce such incidents, including the means that promotes responsible use of firearms.

Over the past 25 years, there have been an average of 1,300 firearms deaths per year. Of the 1,125 firearm deaths in 1995, about 80.1 percent or 911 were classified as suicides; there were 145 homicides, representing 12.4 percent; and 49 unintentional deaths, for 4.3 percent of the total (Hung, 1997). These percentages have remained relatively stable over the past decade.

We're going back a fair bit, but the suicide part would indicate the money would be better spent on mental health than nit picky gun laws.

Part 2 is "How many gun deaths were drug related and should be listed as drug deaths. List the cause, not the means.
 
I never in the past took mental health seriously. My employer offers numerous courses to help educate their staff. I'm just now realizing there are many different challenges people are facing. Some times is the person sitting right next to you without any signs.

I have no idea if this was relevant to TAFB or not. After the grenade launcher incident I highly suspect he had a firearm prohibition.
