many interesting things to think about in situations like this.

Should the Gov't spend money healing this guy, only to execute him later on ?

Should they have just let him die ?

could he maybe be innocent ?

can there be a fair trial ?

Everyone has a right to a fair trial, even terrorists who kill innocent people. If this happened in the middle east he'd be dead already.

Should the Gov't spend money healing this guy, only to execute him later on ? No.

Should they have just let him die ? Yes, even better they should have killed him.

could he maybe be innocent ? Are you ****ing kidding? Do innocents throw grenades in a cop chase, hide under a boat and get into a gunfght??

can there be a fair trial? Maybe, should there? No.

They were in the crowd. If they just happened to fly to Boston for the marathon on a whim then they were the most unlucky guys in the world.

If they are Oswalds it would be easy enough to lure them there to take the dive. They still went knowing they were a part of it.

Depends on what hat you put on.

Dead or alive they take the blame the same way.

Who else are they looking at?

As mentioned they want to get info from him, like why did he do what he did? How was he funded, who taught him how to make bombs? How did he pass thru the security system? yada yada

Should they have just let him die ?
See above

could he maybe be innocent ?
maybe not, why did they go out targeting people? When didn't they just lawyer up? They were shooting till the end

can there be a fair trial ?
I see why not! Should be an easy case

Yes, he is an America citizen, and with that, he is entitled to the due process (whether you like it or not)

Should they have just let him die ?

No - they needed him alive to probe and question. Also, no because it is inhumane, even if he is a killer.

could he maybe be innocent ?

Doubt it, but it is always "innocent before proven guilty"

can there be a fair trial ?

Depends on what you mean by "fair". There is overwhelming evidence against him. He will be found guilty... the sentence on the other hand, who knows? This is a federal charge, so he could face the death penalty. Or, his government-sponsored lawyer (he's already said he can't afford one) will fight for a reduced sentence.. i'm sure they will try and show that he was being pressured by his older dead brother who the media has already branded as the "evil/angry" one

Whatever the outcome, he will never again be a free man. Personally I'd rather be lethally injected than spend the next 50+ years inside a hole in isolation.

If that kid had half a brain he would have left one bullet for himself when capture was inevitable.

regardless of what happened he does not stand a chance of getting a "FAIR" trial.... especially after what he is accused of..... he really should have saved a bullet for himself.. will probably be bumped off in jail...

what do you consider a fair trial to be? if you're caught on tape putting a backpack down that in the next frame explodes what defence do you have? also when the police arrive and you shoot at them, then attempt to run them over what possible defence does this person have?

He did try to kill himself... bullet went out of the back of his throat.

@Faisal.. the fact that he is getting a trial AT ALL is good enough (thanks to the WESTERN Law). If he tried this crap in the middle east, he would have been beheaded in the public square after a 2 second "fair" trial where the judge was the guy holding the sword.

I don't know what kind of juice you have been drinking, but maybe it's time for you to switch. (referring to the previous thread)

hey I am just commenting on the op comments man.. not saying he deserves a trial.. that's why I said he will probably be bumped off by his cell mate in jail.. they should've just waited it out like they did for Chris dorner.. then no fuss no money wasted.. personally they should've just waited till morning to ensure the safety of the approaching officers.

They wanted info out of him, and believe me you're better off dead than to be interrogated by US authorities when you're a terror suspect.

Paul is right, he has no Miranda rights. He is treated as a war criminal.
I'd still take life in jail. Cant be too bad in American jail. Even Gitmo looks like a vacation. The worse he can do is be stubborn & not corporate, most likely that might lead to torture

war criminal= no trial????? makes sense.... a part of me feels sad over this situation a smart promising young man get caught up in this ****... I truly hope they find out what led him down this path.. if not for truths sake then for the sake of all the other kids at risk.

2 bombs went off in the middle of the city... and you want them to wait it out?

- they had no idea if it was a terrorist act / random / whatever
- no idea on accomplices
- no idea of other targets
- no idea of who else could be involved
- no idea if the guy had a bomb strapped to himself and could blow up a city block
- no idea if he was phoning someone and getting instructions (remember Mumbai 26/11?)

P.s - The LAPD are being scrutinized left right and centre on how they handled the Chris Dorner situation. LOL
They don't bring in the HRF (Homeland Response Force) to sit around and "wait it out".

Seriously dude.. reality check...

I guess this has been discussed to death on every other forum, but this one, so here we come with all the arguments again. I'll stay away on this forum. Just one thing to point out - so many people don't understand 'innocent until proven guilty' concept, it's not even funny.

Uh, no. He's charged as a civilian, not as an enemy combatant. The reason his immediate miranda rights were waived (temporarily) is because he possibly had information that could jeopardize the safety of more people.

He did have the right to remain silent.. and in retrospect, any statements he had made could probably not be held against him. The penalty for not reading him his rights is that we cant use those statements in the court of law. HOWEVER, we dont really need to... there is overwhelming evidence anyway!

He was given his miranda rights. Here is the transcript
