Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

Not sure if I would call that stupidly overpriced. Quick search on Cycle Trader shows ASKING prices of $6500-$7900 USD with much higher mileage, which converted brings you up to just over $10k on the high side, plus the inevitable Canadian market "surcharge". With only 1,000 kms and appearing mostly stock except the exhaust, I'd say it's priced with some negotiation room for someone who's looking for one. But then again, I don't really follow the Monster market closely.
Sport Classics are now firmly in the $25k range (craziness). So yeah, unfortunately this might be a "grab it while you can" deal.

The sport classic has come to be "collectable" (I don't know why....but here we are)
That thing is a tarted up monster... so it's the most expensive cheap Ducati... I don't see that as a real claim to fame.
In 50 years, it's STILL going to be a tarted up monster.
Ducati owners are weird. If a 1973 Imola sells for $200,000, they think their POS monster is worth more.

To be fair, that specific Monster was only sold for 1 model year with the 998cc Testastretta motor from the 999, whereas the "upscale" S4Rs was actually sold for 3 models years. That said, without production numbers, I can't be certain, and surely the limited edition Tricolore model is the most rare, but again, the guy isn't asking much more than anyone else.

UGH I definitely felt like I was missing something here, that was it. I forgot the S4R and the S4Rs were different models

Also, though: what kind of Ducatisti buys Termis and then peels off the stickers?

Besides that one in hamilton that sat for two-three years (including up to June 2022) at around 13000CAD..........

I think what happens is when a dealer picks it up or when it goes on BAT with the asking price of 25k, a certain type of person thinks it is automatically worth that. Edit, like the high asking price creates the value, rather than the other way around. Is what it is I suppose. I kind of feel sorry for that hamilton seller now.

There is NO WAY a sport classic is listing on BAT with a $25000 reserve. BAT would not even entertain THAT silly idea. Having sold bikes on BAT my guess is they would take a reserve of $4000-5000... if that.
Dealers can offer it at $25000... if they want, it's a free market. It won't sell, but they can offer it

Sorry, when i said "asking price" i was thinking "selling price"

What is nuts about that sale, is right around that same time similar sportclassics were on BAT and sold for half that price! Is the 'one owner' really bringing that much more in??? Skeptical. Could have just been a good day for that seller. The right buyer was in a bidding mood

We will see what happens with this one. Auction ends in 1.5 hrs at time of posting.

Cough. I don't see 14K difference between the two (although I am not Ducatisti so maybe I am not seeing something important).

...and another thing about BAT.
We're in Canada and 99.9% of bidders on BAT are American and are afraid of the border and all that it it entails.
... the border actually adds two forms to fill out and a couple of hundred for a customs broker... but the average bidder doesn't know that... and they don't know that if you ship the bike as freight, it is cheaper to ship out of Toronto or Montreal to almost anywhere in the states, than to ship it the same distance within the US. There are lots of trucks that haul fruit up from Florida or California, that usually will take ANY southbound load to help pay for fuel on the way down.... but you NEED a good broker

Hasn't had a bid since the 5th. I bet it doesn't go much higher.

And BAT wants ORIGINAL bikes and cars.

Oh yeah, best deal I've ever seen on BAT, was for an old Volvo in Vancouver. It was like an early 90's sedan (sadly, not a wagon), (5 speed turbo model) all professionally rebuilt to highest standards. And was absolutely mint. Would have been a killer DD. I didn't bother bidding, but when I checked the sale price it was like 2500USD! and the guy didn't have a reserve! He probably had 25000cad into it.

Moral of the story, if you see anything on BAT in Canada without a reserve, keep a close eye.

Not to continue any argument, I really don't have a dog in this hunt, but it looks like GP just sold a SC for what they report as $25k. Sure, maybe the buyer negotiated $1-2k of that price.
They're cool bikes, but I remember at the time they were laughed at and failed to sell due to their "retro" styling. Just reiterating that I think the market is crazy. I wouldn't pay that much for one these days.

the ones that are going for $10-12000 are sport 1000's, the yellow one is a sport classic mono posto, much rarer and sought after in that colour. A friend sold his just before the pandemic for $22000.
