Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

Yep, some people are ridiculous. I saw a bike yesterday that didn't have a muffler. The seller had one that fit the bike though, and was willing to sell it for an extra $400.

Don't know why I never thought of that, its genius. Just start taking parts off and selling them as extras. "Yeah, the bike doesn't have tires or brakes, but I can sell you some used ones I have that fit perfect for an extra $200. Also, do you need fuel lines?"

I'm amazed people haven't thought of a $300 "service charge" yet, like some dealers.

Any Ducatisti wanna weigh in on what this is actually worth ("investment" notwithstanding)? I can't easily find numbers on how many 999Rs were made pre-2004... all I remember is that they didn't grow on trees.

They are, and they are faked. I think this one is real, it has the factory badge on the top tree. A total of 800 were made, about 300 went to the US.

Ducati makes a lot of limited run bikes, not sure if this means they are an investment, or just a scheme by Ducati. The problem is that if a limited run bike sold well, Ducati would just make more and "lose" the factory records.

He claims 300 made, 50 in US. That's not true.

That's not out of line, there is a brand new one (999R) on the market currently for around $34,000. but thats stock as new, not with 50K in upgrades. If you started buying actual superbike parts you could hit 50K pretty fast. Ducati factory records are pretty complete and accurate. Bonhams auction house just auctioned the Silverman Race museum collection of 24 rare Ducati bikes last week but I havent looked up the numbers, I'll check if a 999R was in that set and report back.

You mean the ones you used on the street right? because obviously it's never been tracked, raced, or down!!

Don't forget to bill the future owner for all the oil and chain lube you've got through as well! lol

If by "you" you actually mean my gf who i actually bought it for and she was too scared to go past 4000 rpm... then yeah.

We should start a thread about motorcycles which are priced right & good deals in the GTA... However I don't think there would be enough posts to keep it bumped.

If you start it I'll bet people will post. I like to window shop on kijiji even when I'm not in the market.

Race bike records were kinda accurate (numbers got lost with NCR), but Ducati fudged things in the 2000s and made many slightly different limited runs. The Xerox 999R is supposed to be the rarest. 50K in upgrades means nothing, and the stock bike is likely worth more. I'm sure someone will buy the bike and leave it dusty in a garage for another ten years.
I don't understand most expensive exotic bike/car owners, they usually don't use the vehicle and sell it within 24 months.

Must get his crack from Rob Ford.

I've seen that bike for sale for a long time. If I'm not mistaken, the "repsol" edition is just the paint scheme. Virtually no performance upgrade from a standard cbr1000. Correct?

Correct, and this bike has been for sale for over a year. My guess is his wife wants him to get rid of it and he's countering with, "honey...I'm only getting lowball offers".
