Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

Great thread.. Im in the process of trying to buy a bike and the prices have me confused. I see so many 2 year old CBR250's for mid 3500. So I assumed a new one must be around $4500? Then i see this:

http://motorcycle.honda.ca/sport/cbr250r/2012

And then i see this:

http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Honda/CB...05822929/?ms=motorcycles_atvs&showcpo=ShowCPO

Am I missing something? Apart from tax, is there any other fees on top of their asking price? Why would anyone pay a similar amount for a uses high mileage bike when they can buy something like this?

What you are missing is the general disconnect between buyers and sellers reality, especially in the GTA. Most of those bikes will sit unsold for many months. Take our GTAM friend outed on the previous page trying to sell his 2008 CBR1000 for the past TWO YEARS.

There is a culture of overpricing and lowballing on kijiji; one leverages off the other. It's just the nature of the beast.

I think a good "deal" on a 2500 would be in the low two's. Due to the demand for the 250 sports bikes, I can't see them dipping past that point (atleast the newer models)

I bought mine earlier this year for $3900, which was or i thought it was already a good deal compared to what the MSRP was. $3200 is a good price for that 2012, if you can find one.

But now i'm starting to feel like a Gixxer owner lol, pay $10g's at the start of the year, and then seeing them sell for 2 g's less at the end of the season.

Needs nothing to certify? Is that front tire a slick?

That rear tire got me craving buffalo chicken strips...... It looks like it has never seen a corner

not a slick, just incredibly bald.

that autotrader Rock the Red one prolly has no clutch left. Did you see them ride it this year?

The GTA is really got a skewed sense of reality on prices, because most people in the GTA lease (rent) their cars and buy bikes on time. It is very difficult to sell used bikes because the level of debt and cost of living in the GTA is so ridiculous that most are living paycheck to paycheck and just don't have cash. GTA is literally one of the most indebted places in the world.

Rule of thumb: ride it off the lot and lose 20%, 10% every year after. The sweet spot is a three year old used bike, you will have essentially a new bike and minimal depreciation.

The other bizarre GTA phenomenon is the incredibly poor way people maintain their bikes, I haven't seen bikes this badly abused anywhere.

I can't fathom buying a bike on credit.

Which explains why I'm riding a 28yo POS.

(I love my POS.)

the bike in that ad says it only has 350km... can a clutch get ruined that fast?

With the right idiot it can be ruined before it goes 2 ft.

Lol

1) "the back OF the tires"
2) "I hope your footage IS well"
3) No one told him to stop when the smoke started and the wheels weren't spinning.
4) "a. What was that? b. I don't know"

More money than brains
