Soon to be rider! Any other petite ladies?

1) What is insurance like for women (Age 25 - 30)? Who are you with? I'm currently not riding, but my insurance 2 seasons ago(2011) was $2,700 with Jevco for a Honda 599 and I was only 19
2) What is your height and what bike do you ride? I'm 5'11", so no real use to you as I can ride anything flat foot.
3) How do you deal with sexual harassment (on and off your bike?) It's very rare I find, if you keep your clothes on while riding it shouldn't be a problem, also stay away from TAFB. I actually have been working in the motorcycle industry for the past 2 years, and that's the only place I occasionally notice stuff, but mainly it's just assuming I know nothing about bikes as I am a blonde female.
4) There is an overwhelming amount of information everywhere, where should I start? Start with a M1X course, it'll cover the basics of how to ride, rules and some useful tips. Then just read about on forums and talk to a bunch of people.
5) What helped you decide on your first bike? I really didn't want to ride my dads Goldwing, so I looked on Kijiji, found a cute '84 interceptor for only $1000, and bought it. Also insurance wasn't too ridiculous ($3k at age 16). Pretty much finances and style of bike decided it for me, wanted something old to learn on.
6) I don't plan on ever taking passengers but have you? How was it? I took a now ex-boyfriend as a passenger, the first couple turns were sketchy as he thought that would be the opportune moment to move around. Other wise I found it fine, just had to leave extra room for breaking.

why is having both feet on the ground so important?
i ride with my gf on the back all the time, and even with my self on the bike do i rarely ever put down both feet at the same time.

According to the courses I've taken if I have both feet on the ground I'm doing it wrong. Stopped position is foot on rear brake with other foot on the ground.

that's what i thought too, also, find the bike more stable when it's at a triangle with the ground and my one foot rather than both feet down

I can't help but notice some people like to be segregated into their own little niche. Once upon a time Malcolm x & Martin Luther King fought for integration, now the minorities are begging to be segregated.

There's an old Native American saying "we hate what we do not know. What we do not know, we fear". Maybe we hate other people because they don't give us a chance to understand them. But what do I know? I'm just a troll on gtam

I like your style.

At 20 last year I paid 4000/year for my 250.

Being 5'9 myself I'm taller than like 70% of the men that ride ahahaha

u have a lot of Qs, dont worry...those were like the same Qs i had when i first started.

everything will go well when u ride more and know more and discover more.........then upgrade!

p.s. dont buy cbr 125, just go with 250cc

The funny thing about being a rider is.... you become part of a family! We protect and look out for each other and enjoy each others company. I would have suggested going to a bike show, but they're over for this season, great place to see tons of bikes, insurance quotes and all the info you can digest! Follow you heart when choosing a ride. You'll just know...

Cheers 9)

I am worried that for my height, it may be difficult to find a bike that suits my needs. I am also concerned that it limits my options a great deal. I might HAVE to tippy toe. I am 5'0. :-(

My friend just did her M1 exit, she's about 5'0" and 90-95 lbs. At the course she had issues flat footing a cbr125 but she was perfectly fine on a 250cc cruiser (with the exception of the weight of the bike).

I'm not sure which type of bike you plan on getting but cruisers are probably the "lowest" and then the seat height goes up from there. If you want a sportier bike, you can get it lowered but it does change the handling somewhat BUT at least you get what you want and are on the road. Lots of options...

Her insurance quotes from Guelph were so ridiculously cheap I couldn't believe it, those were called in to her agent and not done online. Her choice bikes are the Kawi 250 or 300. Her age is in the bracket you mentioned also.

Best of luck!

Not only am I quite short, I have a really short inseam (just under 29")....and I ride one of the tallest streetbikes money can buy.
Have I dropped it? Yep.....horsing around trying to run and jump on it like a horse etc, has led to some amusing situations. But in general, I have become accustomed to using tippy toes, and only on one side of the bike. The bike is really tall, but it only matters below 2kmh...after that, I do pretty well on it. Tippy toes both sides only works for me on really low bikes, and flat foot? Forgettaboutit!
This pic kinda shows tippy toe left foot, right foot about 12" off the ground.

But yeah, us shorties have to deal with all kinds of stuff the tallies don't eh? I have dealt with all kinds of sexual harrassment though...I am not sure why....maybe I have a sign on me that says "objectify me"...LMAO

Had NO idea you were a woman lol. Just goes to show.

So how do you handle the 950 SM? I'm relatively tall (5'10.5") but have a 30" inseam. Still haven't mastered riding a Dualie

A woman? Who said I was a woman? LMAO
I am a man who is just tired of being treated like apiece of meat...BWAHAAA.

While I don't truthfully have any female experience to add, I do have 30 yrs of really short rider experience.

Rode dirt bikes from 9-16, then got my licence. Started on a Rebel 250-grew tired of it in a week so I got a Shadow 500. Way heavier but much more highway worthy. A yr later I got a CBR600....I could barely tiptoe both sides, and every bike after that one seemed to get taller and/or wider. Even wide bikes eat up your inseam, making the ground seem farther away. I haven't lowered any of my bikes becasue I am unwilling to sacrifice cornering clearance.

However, should I decide to keep the KTM, I might have it lowered just 2" so I can put up my own sidestand. As it is now, with right foot tippy toe, I can't reach sidestand or shifter to pop into 1st gear. I have to hop on the bike while it is balanced straight up, and quickly sweep the sidestand up and get a foot down before I fall. Then do it all over again to pop into gear. It's amusing to watch I am sure.

I know that if I lower the bike, my riding will have to change because on sport touring tires, I am already dragging hard parts on this bike, and that will only become worse when it is lowered. Since I started racing, I am hoping that I can just tone down the street riding enough to be happy with the bike's limits and get the yayas out at the track.

Da fuq? 135km/h not tucked or downhill? I need like 1km of downhill fully tucked to hit that lol. Guess 45lbs makes a difference.

I hit 145 today tucked + slight downhill (404 southbound between Bloomington & Stoufville). Didn't sustain it for more than a couple of seconds though because the car ahead that was speeding (AKA my popo shield) went to exit.

Then again, actual speed was probably just 138-140ish.

Just got my M1 and will be starting my course next week. I am petite and one of my biggest fears are not being able to control/balance a bike. And being a lady, I am also concerned about how I may be treated in general (less seriously, objectified, etc). Could other ladies please post and let me know there are more of you out there? Where do you hang out on these forums? Is there a sub-forum for us? What has your experience been when you first started? And what are some tips/advice you can give me? Thanks!

I also have some newbie questions I hope someone could answer for me (mostly directed at women).

1) What is insurance like for women (Age 25 - 30)? Who are you with? My insurance for a cbr 250 is $120/month and im with scotialife insurance also known as certas.
2) What is your height and what bike do you ride? Im not short or tall just average and i ride cbr 250.
3) How do you deal with sexual harassment (on and off your bike?) on the bike i dont really get sexually harassed but some guys in cars would be looking not believing a girl is on a black bike. Like come on ppl its 2013!! Got a couple of guys in their cars rev their cars wanting to race i just ignore them lol.
4) There is an overwhelming amount of information everywhere, where should I start? Start with the new riders forum here when i started riding i got all the info i needed from this forum plus a lot of great riders that r helpful especially if they know u r a girl lol .

5) What helped you decide on your first bike? Price, speed and my instructor at the riding school.
6) I don't plan on ever taking passengers but have you? How was it? Ya i have taken most of my friends on the bike different sizes and even bigger than me i feel that with a ride the bike is a bit balanced. When i started riding i didnt want to go alone so my friend came with me on the bike and it helped me get better at riding.

I would recommend u start with a 125 or 250 not a 500 my instructor told me a 500 for a new rider might scare them at first so it better for a new rider to build up confidence on a smaller bike before riding 500 and up.

Goodluck and msg me if u need any help:)

It is extremely amusing to watch, and then re-watch with the gopro :D

I thought I'd jump in late instead of starting a new thread.

I just finished my M1 exit course a couple of weekends ago, and plan to get a bike within a month. I'm also very small (5'0", 110lbs) and had to shift weight/tippy toe on the CBR125s we rode for the M1 exit course (taking the course is an excellent idea...because you will drop your bike, and better it be their bike than yours! I dropped their bikes several times the first day, twice the second morning, and not at all by the time we took the test). Apparently I had a very amusing dance hopping from one foot to the other at a stop to switch gears/kickstand.

I'm fully prepared to practice this dance once I get a bike (either a Ninja or CBR, definitely 250cc's), but I'm having difficulty finding gear that fits. To similarly small ladies, how did you find a jacket that fits, and where did you get it? I bought a XS Joe Rocket Cleo 12.0 Mesh jacket from Royal Distributing (out in Guelph), but I can still grab a very generous handful of extra material even standing straight up with the waist cinches as tight as they go. This is probably okay for now since I don't plan to ride highways anytime soon, but eventually I'd like to be able to ride at high speeds without puffing up like a giant marshmallow. Help?

Try ordering from us larger inventories so a better chance of getting some thing that will fit u. Also if you are super small you may consider going custom.. I don't think you are midgit small.. Xs or should do

PS: not a girl

I find Dainese has the best fit for petite folks (like myself) followed by some Alpinestars lines.
