Soon to be rider! Any other petite ladies?

Just got my M1 and will be starting my course next week. I am petite and one of my biggest fears are not being able to control/balance a bike. And being a lady, I am also concerned about how I may be treated in general (less seriously, objectified, etc). Could other ladies please post and let me know there are more of you out there? Where do you hang out on these forums? Is there a sub-forum for us? What has your experience been when you first started? And what are some tips/advice you can give me? Thanks!

I also have some newbie questions I hope someone could answer for me (mostly directed at women).

1) What is insurance like for women (Age 25 - 30)? Who are you with?
2) What is your height and what bike do you ride?
3) How do you deal with sexual harassment (on and off your bike?)
4) There is an overwhelming amount of information everywhere, where should I start?
5) What helped you decide on your first bike?
6) I don't plan on ever taking passengers but have you? How was it?

ETA: I do not tolerate disrespect and sexism. It will be flagged.

Well, good luck to you. You've gone and opened the floodgates yourself. Your best bet would have probably been to not post your gender and physique to be taken seriously, then found out who the experienced ladies are on here (not hard to do). And spoken to them privately.

Behave yourself in this forum boys.

I started riding last summer , I'm 5'5 and have a 03 ninja 500 you can get lots of great help n info from both men and women.. I have taken both son n daughter on bike and its not too bad.. I wont try an adult as I am bigger girl ( not that bad , but know I need to loose a few pounds ) lol never the less its not gonna stop me... I cant say I have seen sexual harassment on here but be careful as these boys love to jump into any open can you might put on here lol... and have a good laugh but that's all it is.. you will meet great people to hook up with and quickly learn which ones not to talk with as for type of bike, get the one you feel the most comfortable with look at 500 they are great start bikes.. Good luck!

some good advice in my opinion.

^^^ seriously if I had to listen to that guy talk in person for more than 3 minutes I'd probably punch him in the throat. His advice isn't bad though.

There are quite a few petite lady riders around. If you have any problem with tippy-toeing your bike you can always look into having your bike lowered.
I suggest going to some dealers and sitting on a few bikes to feel out the seat height.

Thanks for all the responses and tips everyone! I will definitely take a look. (I also didn't see any of the other posts referenced by other people, but glad to see the mods on top of it and making the forums a respectful, fun and safe place for all riders to participate in).

1) What is insurance like for women (Age 25 - 30)? Who are you with? I PAY 200/MONTH, AND IM UNDER 25
2) What is your height and what bike do you ride? I AM 5'5 AND I RIDE A 2012 DAYTONA TRIUMPH 675CC
3) How do you deal with sexual harassment (on and off your bike?) I DON'T FIND THERE IS ANY SEXUAL HARASSMENT WITH RIDING. MOST PEOPLE ARE PRETTY RESPECTFUL.
4) There is an overwhelming amount of information everywhere, where should I start? JUST RIDE AND ASK QUESTIONS AS NEEDED. LOTS OF INFO OUT THERE BUT YOU TAKE WHAT YOU NEED.
5) What helped you decide on your first bike? MY FIRST BIKE WAS A 2000 KAWI NINJA 250EXF. CHEAP ON INSURANCE, SMALL BIKE, EASY TO MANEUVER AND I COULD STAND WITH BOTH FEET TOUCHING GROUND
6) I don't plan on ever taking passengers but have you? How was it? I HAVE TAKEN PASSENGERS ON BIKE, BUT ONLY DO IT IF YOU ARE COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE WITH RIDING INDEPENDENTLY AND CAN PLACE BOTH FEET COMFORTABLY ON GROUND TO BALANCE BIKE SO THAT WHEN YOU STOP, YOU CAN HANDLE THE WEIGHT EVEN IF BIKE IS AT A SLIGHT ANGLE.

HOPE THAT HELPS. Whereabouts are you? What do you ride? Want to go for a ride sometime?

why is having both feet on the ground so important?
i ride with my gf on the back all the time, and even with my self on the bike do i rarely ever put down both feet at the same time.

I think for new riders it's a comfort thing, knowing at anytime you can stand the bike upright with both feet in case of the "oh sh*t" moments.

It's like hopping on and off a motorcycle with no kickstand, takes a few tries to get used to.

1. I'm in the age bracket.. 1K a year. But I have speeding tickets.
2. 5'3" around 48kg/105pounds - 2011 CBR 125. Lots of people say it's underpowered, but I have no problem getting off line or getting to 120km/h quicker than average traffic speeds. I redline at 135km/h (not tucked, not downhill). Not a good bike if you have a big ego.
3. Nothing but respect while riding. All gender-based harassment and smartassed-ness has come from this board LOL. Just ignore em.
4. No real concrete advice I could give. I've gathered info from all sorts of websites. I'd be happy to chat after you get your M2.
5. Price + insurance. Otherwise I would've gone larger cc.
6. Yes, briefly, and it was not the most confidence-inspiring experience, haha! But I don't intend on doing 2-ups anytime soon. If anything, wait till you have a few K experience. It's still early...

Da fuq? 135km/h not tucked or downhill? I need like 1km of downhill fully tucked to hit that lol. Guess 45lbs makes a difference.

Is this sexist if she has a predetermined idea that all men will sexually harrass her? This is almost as bad as seeing a black guy & clutching my wallet

I don't understand why she has to bring up "female" & "sexual harassment". Maybe that's why people don't treat you with respect

I can't wring more than 90-100 out of a 125R...225lbs for the loss

Let's just not go there, I agree 100% but the mods won't be happy if we get into it with the minority of females who feel entitled in the New Members area.
