Seriously. If FIFA would only just put out an edict around diving and refs would enforce it...what a better game it would be.

This is the reason i stopped watching soccer years ago. If the governing body doesn't care enough to use video replays and severely punishment players for literally cheating, then I just can't support the sport.

Funny enough it was Italy that did it for me when they won in 2006 vs Australia with a last minute dive in the box. So hearing they have missed out on 2 world cups in a row now is amusing.

How do the next playoff games shape up?
Portugal
Sweden
North Macedonia
Wales
To be honest, I have no idea. With Russia out and Ukraine on hold, I'm not sure even FIFA knows, though I'm sure they're gagging to get their greasy hands back on Putin's kleptocratic cash. Infantino hasn't met a murderous dictator he doesn't love as long as they're lining his pocket...

With all the drama around Italy, I missed that Wales won with two beauties by Bale (take that Real Madrid!) If they can get in it would be incredible. My Dad's side is Italian, but my Mum is mostly Welsh, so she'll have bragging rights for the first time in forever.

Man, these Costa Rican players sure are pathetic.
I wasn't able to watch the game, but I saw the yellow on replay and while it was terrible, Kaye didn't do himself (and the team) any favours. Having luckily escaped a red and already on a yellow, he had no business playing into the Costa Rican gamesmanship.

Honestly, I sometimes prefer to watch women’s games as they don’t dive. Give it time I guess.
Refs can already give yellows for 'simulation', but it's very difficult to do live. I think there should be a rule that if you go down without contact, it's a minimum three game suspension. They could review the dive later at their leisure, and if there's an obvious example that's irrefutable, then bring the hammer down. It won't eliminate the marginal stuff, but it would get rid of the egregious stuff pretty quick.

I played hockey as a kid and rugby in high school, so used to have the same 'tough guy' obsession with diving that most Canadians have (those pu**ies should just play!) But having become more familiar with the sport, it doesn't bother me nearly as much in the English/German/Italian leagues. It happens, but rarely, and doesn't ruin the game. I even understand the need sometimes to make sure the ref sees a foul by going down, as not all punishable fouls knock a player over. But the Spanish league is on the edge of too much for me (especially clubs like Atletico) and Central and South American teams are usually too much. Add refs who encourage that sort of garbage in CONCACAF, and it can be infuriating.

Some teams in MLS are also brutal.

Roll on Sunday!!!

Joined after the first goal, but from what I've seen so far, they should be up 5-0 at the half with a Jamaican side that looks like they'd rather be on the beach than freezing their nuts off in Toronto. Need one more to put this to bed and then the party can start...

Two nil up now.
15 minutes + to go
What a crowd!
What a team!

Yes, should be 4 or 5.
We have too much time in their box...I don’t think the players are used to it!

Nice to see the flag being used for the right reason for a change!

You have to give some love to the Voyageurs. They have been great for Canadian Soccer and the atmosphere at Canadian games. They sing the songs, they do the chants. The TV productions put a microphone on those section to make the broadcasts more lively.

They cared about Canadian soccer when no one else gave a ****...

I must admit, when they went 2-nil up, I got a little emotional .

Did you see the t-shirt the lads wore after the match?

Canada crest and then below in big letters

WE
CAN

And on the back, all had Canada across the top and number 22.

I’d like one of those

I should have bought one before the match, they will all be marked up now!

I get a lot of soccer shirts from here…. Fanwear Soccer

the We Can shirts are $60

I like the French hybrid one!

That’s a lot of coin for what’s basically a t-shirt. Cool AF though.
If I thought the $ would go to soccer development programs, I’d pay twice that. But it’s paying some fat cats salary, so eff that.
