So... Thanksgiving...

Domestic turkeys don’t fly , bred for breast meat so big the barely waddle . If you go to catch them you actually need to be quiet and move slowly . Every ‘roundup’ results in half a dozen having heart attacks . This was a part time student job for me .
Wild turkeys 100% fly , they can launch straight up into a tree from a standing start . We hunted them to near extinction and now they are back in big numbers . And they are a decent size , I wouldn’t want to hit one .

They are big birds.
And maybe not too bright. I've slowed for a flock, started to speed up again as they wander off the road, then had get right back on the binders as some decide to double back out into my path.

Started Thanksgiving off with a bang. F me was that loud. Thankfully only minor finger damage and a dent in the ceiling. Looks like failure started at start of thread. It was in my hands and I had just released the nitrous when it blew.

What appliance is that from?

Beer is cold. Whiskey is ready. Food is warm.

Guests are arriving. And my neighbour is ripping up his new driveway because someone called the City on him and turns out it’s against code 😂😂😂😂

Happy Thanksgiving!

Polish style Thanksgiving
No cranberries. Added some gravy after a few bites into the turkey

A Polish cranberry is a red cabbage.

That’s about how my plate looked. Without the horrid cabbage.
You a walking a fine line my friend.

Mama's red cabbage is the best.

Well obviously not your mom's...but have had the red cabbage my mother made, my MIL made, and my wife made...along with some made by cousins here and there...

All are politely declined. Same as sledzie, flaki...and all that other horrible stuff.

Oooh, flaki. In my misspent youth, my circle of friends was mostly Polish, and I learned the art of drinking pint-sized glasses of vodka chased with open-faced sandwiches loaded with kielbasa and that Polish mayo with the black and white drawing of a girl on the side of the jar.

This, naturally, led to many hangovers, which were often treated with a hot and spicy bowl of flaki. Right up there with a greasy plate of bacon and eggs for me as a morning after treat.

Edit: and to stay in topic, if I never ate turkey again, I'd be happy. Bleh. We've started doing a big ham at Thanksgiving and a prime rib at Christmas. Better for the main meal, and way better leftovers.

So B's neighbour hosted a pot luck yesterday. Fantastic time! Foods of every description. Young couple moved in yesterday and got a great welcome. She got on a guitar and entertained. Then it moved downstairs to listen to music. Nigerian people from 3 doors down started the karaoke.Blessy (sp?) taught me some moves. My hips are sore today.
Huge VERY white guy did a really good Raspberry Beret.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

During my time of travelling to turkey everyone kept referencing ‘iskembe’…so one drunken evening I said ‘sure let’s give it a whirl’.

Imagine my disappointment when I found out what it was.

If you ever go to Italy and don't have a lampredotto panino or trippa alla Romana, you will be very much missing out.

Pajata is also insanely delicious, but I can understand why that might be a bit too far for some...
