So I bought a bike with a dent in frame and cant get safety

Yes, that's exactly what you do. And you get a stamping kit and stamp your vin (which you paid for and own the title to) into the new frame (which you paid for and own) and chop the old frame up (which you paid for and own)

**** the MTO.

First, this turned out to be a long debate but I appreciate your guys honesty. Lesson def learned.

I decided not to go with small claims court. I have a friend who is a lawyer and could represent me for free or almost free, but I know this will drag on forever, and I just wanna ride.

I called Ready Honda and got quoted $1,100 for a new frame. Its not little but I thought it would be worse.

I'm just thinking should I go that route and sink more money into it, or just sell it to someone who can fix the bike all on their own. While I do some work on my car, and enjoy wrenching I think swapping a frame would be too much for me. Unless I did it with someone knowledgeable.

Op if you're super concerned fix it or replace the frame. I'd look around and see if a used one is available somewhere before spending that kind of change on a new one.

Frame Swap: drop the bike off in the AM with the replacement frame, you can pick it up later that evening if nothing is hacked inside.
Just a question. Nothing at all against you as this is simply for my own curiosity.

So what happens when you open the can of warms and take his bike apart to swap the frame to only realize (if not checked previously) that the forks are bent due to the crash, what if there is an electrical mess or the rear shock is so bad that you don't feel it would be safe?

Do you call the guy and ask him to fork a crap load of more money that you know he is going to cry about or just put his bike back together and charge him for the intended work you performed even if he won't be able to safely ride the bike?

I honestly don't know how you deal with street riders? they want everything free and are not willing to pay up - at least that is my experience for observation through the years, i would have no patience !

^^ same can be said about a lot of car owners. I got out of the trade because of stuff like that. Also was sick of hearing how their repair bills were costly and it was my fault.

So Ready Honda will do the frame swap for $1,100, and the previous owner is willing to chip in $800? I'd take that deal and run with it. Only an extra $300 out of your own pocket is a pretty cheap lesson learned in this situation.

Edit: Doh! 1100 for the frame only.

I don't think 1100 includes the actual work. But what do I know.

The frame will cost 1100 probably plus tax, then the cost of the labor.

Tricky one

Cost of labour at a dealer will double up that $1100 easily. That's if it goes smoothly.

You don't want the dealer doing that kinda work under any circumstances.
