Small pick up to carry a bike?

We need a new(er) car. I suggested a small p/u that could double to haul a bike and the Squeeze was keen to the idea.

BUT is that even a thing? I had an 86 Ford Ranger that worked fine years ago. Are there still small p/u's to be had?

With the 4 banger 5 speed set up I got 30mpg. Any small trucks getting decent mileage?

I can get 26mpg out of my Taco if i drive like a senior. It's a2.6l four banger.

If all you need to do is move a bike once in a blue moon, you're probably better off renting a uhaul bike trailer when needed and trailering it with almost any vehicle with a 1500+ lb tow rating.

Then you don't get a PU with associated upcost and drawbacks just to carry a bike once a blue moon when what you really need 99.999% of the time is a mid size sedan/cross-over.

If you can't haul a motorcycle in a sedan, you're doing it wrong.

OK should have mentioned I'm not looking to buy new. I was thinking 10 -15K would buy a decent used bike hauler.

I have a trailer but I like the idea of one vehicle. Less hassle ( I think).

Not 100% sure a p/u is what I want. Lightcycle's red honda would be perfect for ME. Not so much the Squeeze.

Rough time to be looking into pick up trucks, market is red hot, and inventory is ****.
+1. I can sell my truck currently for more than I paid 2 years ago.
if you can wait, I'd wait.

if you want fuel economy and don't care about power/towing, try to find one with a 4 banger.

from experience, my old V6 4.0L crew cab got worse fuel economy than my current F150 3.5 eco.
2017 honda ridgeline got the best economy, similar to any midsize SUV

Before covid madness my brother wanted a $15K truck. He ended up with a mediocre ram well over a decade old. He got rid of it in less than two years (lots not to like). With that budget, I would not be happy with any of the trucks available.

Maybe we run in different circles. I'm fine with a low budget (maybe that attitude helped me retire earlier)

My brother makes less and spends much more than me. The four door ram was too tight for his family of four so he "needed" a bigger truck and justified the $70K as he will keep it forever and it will be his sons first vehicle in 13 years. smh.
