small fuel carrying solutions

For anyone interested, the Duc just died with no warning when it was out. 🙂
so what was the range? Were you on the highway or riding spiritedly?

I don’t remember, 230ish.

Spirited mixed riding

would be very difficult to do on a street triple or superduke, not to mention hideously ugly (no offense)
That’s why people don’t tour with them. 😂

Assuming when you say "cross borders" you are heading to the States?
I've been sent to Secondary Inspection by a border guard that was having a bad day and needed to flex on someone. They diligently went through my backpack pulling everything out.
Just curious if there would be any repercussions to having a couple litres of fuel in your luggage. Hopefully they wouldn't think of it any different than having spare gas cans in the trunk of a car.

This is what I have. It works well, but the plastic cord connecting to the cap broke.

@bigpoppa
I was going to suggest something similar to what @Evoex suggested or the red fuel bottle that @Gary mentioned.
Check the net for the different variations of this type of bag.

I have a similar set up as @Baggsy
I can't say it works well as I have not needed to use it for its intended purpose yet. So far it has not leaked. The mount that I have for it is a Givi Mount for the Givi 2L Jerry Can.

I usually take it on full day or multi day rides, even though my range is more then 300kms. The other reason why I take it is just in case someone else in my riding group runs out of fuel or I come across a stranded rider on the side of the road that needs some gas.

I have not ran the VStrom dry yet but might attempt it next season.

Nah, already ordered a 1L msr fuel bottle, will fit nicely in my tail bag, I wont have to worry about size and dimensions, new luggage solutions or have to think about getting a riding backpack etc.

My KLR will get over 400 if you’re not pushing it over 60mph
I have never needed to carry fuel, don’t see the point unless you’re taking a bar hopper up the JBR.

I bought one of these and cut them apart on the band saw ( there is plenty of meat on the seam between them). Small one holds 2.2L and fits in my side bag perfectly. Been using it for yrs . Never leaked.

edit.... riding the dragon one evening. Coulda swore there was a gas station at the top. Well i #%=#$@ that up. Fuel light was flashing and im thinkin im f $%#@#..dumped the 2.2L can in, made it back down and too the cabin in Robinsville...save my butt. I never leave home without it when riding out of town on long trips.Screenshot_20231207-081858_Chrome.jpg.

Running an EFI bike down to the fumes is never a good idea. The fuel acts as a coolant and lubricant for the pump inside the tank. Better to stop more often and not take the chance. Having said that, two friends ran up the Dempster Highway to Tuk the first summer it was open. Sometimes 350-400 kms between stations. They each carried extra fuel knowing that the likelihood was they wouldn't need it but knowing the alternatives were unacceptable.
