Shoutout to the 2 riders who helped me out at 404/Finch last night

I was travelling south on my GS500 down 404 last night and bike died as I was getting close to the Finch off-ramp, luckily I was in the right lane and I had enough momentum to get me to the exit. Bike wouldn't start up and eventually I wasn't getting anything from the battery. I have only started riding a month ago with this being my first bike, I was about to call CAA to take me home when 2 riders stopped by to check up on me. It turns out that I had a short somewhere and that's why the bike wasn't getting anything from the battery. Once that was fixed we still couldn't start it, and guess what - I was completely out of gas and I was already switched to reserve. I ended up pushing it to the nearest gas station and voila.

It was my first tank of gas and I had it on the kickstand instead of sitting on the bike, I have never touched the reserve switch since I got the bike and I had assumed the previous owner had it right...I know it happened due to my own stupidity and definitely lesson learned.

Anyway, I'm not sure if you guys are on here just wanted to say thank you again. Really appreciate that you guys stopped by and I'm feeling the love from the community haha. Will for sure pass on the favor if the opportunity arises one day.

Ride safe!

Good stuff. Riders generally will help out. Ive done it a few times when i was in a position to help. Ive also run out of gas and a gtam'er came and helped out.

The community and camaraderie are the biggest draw of motorcycling. A couple guys helped me bump start my F4i at L&L last night.

Remember to pay it forward. Riders will generally help other riders. We know the pain of getting stuck.

and....that's why we wave. :D

this stuff is good to hear, i always make sure stopped riders are ok either with a wave and a thumbs up as i slow down, never know when someone needs help. i had a guy help me bump my bike a couple years ago when the regulator went, it was hot as **** that day too and took a few tries, damn vtwins dont like being bumped when the battery is dead and theyre hot

A few weeks ago my bike wouldn't start after filling up with some gas (as if the battery was totally dead), so I was stuck at a gas station around Elgin Mills and Bathurst for a little while, trying to figure out what was wrong. Anyway long story short, I had a nice non-rider in a pickup lend me his tools while he had a car-wash because all I had was a bicycle multi-tool, I thought it was nice. In the end the bike magically started up again after I removed and inserted the chips in the fuse box again. Now I've put a few more tools in the bike storage compartment.

I also enjoyed that an old lady was chatting me up about the weather. LOL.

I do appreciate kindness from strangers, and try to reciprocate.

Running out of gas/playing with petcock positions and learning the vagueries of sidestand engine cut out switches is a right of passage for owning your first bike.

I love the way the riding community generally helps out. I've been checked on many times when stopped for various reasons.

I always check on stopped bikes, although in slowing to check on a stopped rider on Guelph Line last week I got quite the unimpressed look from her while I tried to get a thumbs up from her. I'm thinking she misread my intentions.

A couple of years ago a friend' bike died on him. I went home to get my trailer to bring his bike home to Burlington from Hamilton. I saw a rider pushing his bike towards Hamilton on the 403 so stopped and picked him up on my way back... Even though it was a Harley!

It's illegal to sit on your bike while fueling it. More and more stations are cracking down.

Just put it on the stand, fill it till it clicks, then pull the handle 1/4 way or so to top it off. I've never sat on my bike while refueling as I dont want to come across that one time I have an accident and have gas in my crotch.

I've been sitting on it and fueling for the past 3 years =/

I have yet to be told this by an attendant.
I've had them shut the pump off twice :( One time I was way past my fuel light, got maybe 50 cents in, and he told me to leave, wouldn't turn on any other pumps for me :( Luckily there was another station a few blocks away!!!

Why would they care if you're sitting on the bike while pumping gas? I do it all the time, I didn't know it was an issue.
