Shield from shoei.com

I ordered a shield from shoei.com and found out today that I had to pay $53 at the door to UPS for customs.

The shield itself was $89 + shipping.

I didn't take it and let it go back unfortunately.

What a rip-off...

Conclusion: don't order from there.

Yes, UPS charge a brokerage fee.

NEVER buy anything from the US and have it shipped by UPS/FedEX

Us postal service is much better ( USPS )

Yea, I got rim stripes from tapeworks.com sent by USPS and not only that it came at the same time, but also didn't have to pay a penny.

Was that some special shield? I ordered one for my RF-1100 through GP Bikes and it was much cheaper. And obviously, like many people said, always buy from companies that ship via USPS (Priority) to Canada. Or you can opt for UPS Express, then all duty/taxes are covered by Express fee, so there is nothing you'll be paying at the door.

Thanks for the info.

It was Spectra (shiny stuff). Otherwise the smoke or dark smoke etc is (was) $50-$60.

How much did you pay at GP Bikes ?

Hey guys longtime lurker first time poster.....anyway UPS is a rip off but you can opt out and clear the package yourself from CBSA (customs/immigration).

1) Goods must be less than $1600.00
2) Go to the CBSA Low Value Clearance Office - 2720 Britannia Road East P.O. Box 40, AMF Toronto, Ontario L4W 2P7 (aka at PEARSON)
3) Refuse to pay at the door or any of UPS fees
4) Ensure you have the shipment invoice from UPS if not call the Customer Service 1-800-742-5877 to get one
5) Ensure to get the Unique Shipment Identifier Number - CBSA needs this
5) Also get the address of where your package is being held by UPS
6) Take all the info the CBSA office with ID and present to officer and pay the duties/taxes
7) You will get a B15 form after paying - don't lose this
8) Call UPS and advise them that you have self cleared and provide them the B15 #
9) you will have to fax this form to them
10) May take 1-5 days to process on UPS end - Its usually pretty quick
11) Reschedule delivery

I know it sounds like a lot of work but it can be done and gets easier every time. I order all the time off the net and sometimes you can't pick the shipper and I am not going to let ridiculous fees hold me back from ordering what I want - plus think of it like sticking it to the man - it may be time consuming but its worth it in the end.

Anyways love GTAM and its always a great source for info.

Hey there I know a website that also sell Shoei helmet and has no UPS fee. You can visit Jafrum for more details. I bought here my Arai helmet and spare parts if I want to replace some parts of the helmet. This is really good website.

Or you can just specify that goods be shipped using one of the UPS "international" services, which doesn't incur the brokerage fee.

a buddy ordered a shield from that guy. looks great, but is nowhere near oem quality..

will warp with windex, scratches easily, much thinner than stock.

I'll have to double-check for exact price, but it was in the $60s for mellow (light) smoke.

There's an ebay company that makes shields for all major manufacturers, I've bought a couple for Shark and HJC helmets, perfect fit, no complaints. I think the company is Bike-z http://stores.ebay.com/bike-z

If that company is truly TUV approved as they state, then their stuff should be high quality. I can't find any reviews on them outside of the ebay feedback.

I got mine from canada's motorcycle. I understand the US retailers have some issue shipping to Canada now ( for shoei products)

nevermind

one thing is to find something on the web, and another is to actually hold this shield in your hands ;)
trust me, it's not the same quality as OEM

I have both OEM and the shield from this company. Trust me...they match up fine. I bought a tinted shield from the ebay company and the problems with that are the same as for any tinted shield, they scratch easily. The optical clarity is perfect and the shield is thick with no warping.

what helmet did you get a shield for?

so it scratches easily... what color did you get? And how do you find the tint in overcast conditions?
