Shield from shoei.com

Hey guys longtime lurker first time poster.....anyway UPS is a rip off but you can opt out and clear the package yourself from CBSA (customs/immigration).

I know it sounds like a lot of work but it can be done and gets easier every time. I order all the time off the net and sometimes you can't pick the shipper and I am not going to let ridiculous fees hold me back from ordering what I want - plus think of it like sticking it to the man - it may be time consuming but its worth it in the end.

Anyways love GTAM and its always a great source for info.

Awesome tip, didn't know about this!

Or you can just specify that goods be shipped using one of the UPS "international" services, which doesn't incur the brokerage fee.

Not all online retailers offer that option for international shipping.

I have both OEM and the shield from this company. Trust me...they match up fine. I bought a tinted shield from the ebay company and the problems with that are the same as for any tinted shield, they scratch easily. The optical clarity is perfect and the shield is thick with no warping.

it seems that we agree on the fact that it scratches very easily.
but the OEM shield is thicker than the one from eBay.

I've learned from experience that it can cost more for brokerage and shipping than the cost of the item. For example, I paid about $70 in fees for a $60 part.

I ONLY buy items shipped from the States if they are shipped USPS. No disappointments and only had to avoid one or two sellers.

I got a me the 1100 Shoei and looking to get a tinted shield, I take it the general consensus is ordering online from a US retailer? Don't see that much of price difference vs buying from a Canadian store though. Plus you get the convenience of picking it up rather than waiting for the shipment.

Never had a tinted shield that didn't scratch easily to be honest, either OEM or aftermarket. nature of the beast. I did check the thickness though and the aftermarket tinted shield is as thick as my OEM Shark clear shield. No problems there, the Ebay seller also gave me two sets of fixing rings for the shield in different colours. I thought that was a nice touch.

what helmet did you get a shield for?

so it scratches easily... what color did you get? And how do you find the tint in overcast conditions?

Mine was for a Shark helmet and I got an iridium shield. I wear it for all but the darkest/stormiest days. I usually swap it out for a clear shield at dusk. The tinted/coated shields are usually not as dark as a full tinted non coated shield (like a dark smoke for instance). Suits me fine, even on the sunniest days the irridium is OK. All mirrored finish coated shields will scratch easily, doesn't matter if they are OEM or aftermarket. Use a helmet bag off the bike.
