I was helping a friend sell her Royal Enfield. Within hours of listing the bike (for way under market value) a guy shows up to look at it. He's dressed and hair done like a bollywood actor with a gucci endorsement. I'm in my flip flops and painting shorts.
He seems nice enough at first, but you hear him say things like "the tires are in great shape" (rear was balder than Homer), "I ride a bigger bike" (almost drops the 500cc Enfield), "I really want the bike" (proceeds to offer 30% under asking). I tell him he can leave.
We negotiate to 15% under asking, safetied, but (despite a 2" thick wallet), he only has $5 so he can't leave me a deposit
I say we can do that deal when he comes back with cash, it's first come, first serve, until then. He says he'll be back in the evening after work.
An hour or so later, someone else reaches out with a much richer offer, as-is, and offers to leave an e-transfer sight unseen and come get the bike right away. Again, this bike was way under market, and if I was a Royal Enfield fan I would have bought it for myself.
Sure enough, the serious buyer shows up within an hour with a truck, a trailer, a friend (or employee?) to help him load. Unlike the first guy, this dude (also Indian) wasn't wearing any labels, but you could just tell from the way he carried himself, how he showed respect for both your time and his own, and how he treated you, that he was both the real money, and just an overall good, quality human being. The guy he brought with him was equally kind and respectful and I'd hang out with those guys any day.
As for the first guy... When I told him the bike was sold, he offered me asking price! Dude, if it was worth asking price to you, you should have offered it.
I have a screenshot somewhere. I'll attach it if I find it.
