scrapping a car

Fixing a 13 year Chrysler to sell it is not best advice unless maybe you have lots of time, skill, tools and access to dirt cheap parts.
There are certain makes that retain almost no value after few years (GM, Ford, Chrysler, Kia, Saab, etc) and others that are always in demand (Toyota, Honda, BMW, diesel VW etc). Of course there are exceptions, certain models are more in demand than others.

300M from 2000 is worth about $1,500 if it's in good shape, decent mileage. Something that's not drivable but running engine - maybe $500-600 if you're lucky. If not, $300 from scrappers.

My bad. I forgot GMs aren't worth anything.

When I scrapped mine, they paid $200 and picked it up. However, selling it on Kijiji as a beater or parts car will get you a lot more.

Most definitely. As long as you are willing to put up with a lot of crap from people. Biggest thing for me is time. I don't want to waste it. Had a 1998 F150 with 200k on it, still running. Could possibly get 1,000+ on kijiji as it was 4wd and v8 but sold it to my neighbour for $500 just to avoid the hustle. With that said, as long as you have realistic expectations of what your vehicle is worth, selling is not too difficult.

Yep, dealing with Kijiji is crazy at times.

You post up something for $1, and people will only pay a penny and want it shined and delivered for that price too.

Yup....time. I posted my SIR for 4000 and it took two months of beating off offers of 2G's and 1500's until a guy finally came out to see it and bought it on the spot for 3700. Thats what i tell people. Come out and see it, then we'll talk price. First guy that came and saw it bought it.

Not sure if it's just hondas but the ones advertised as great condition are actually POSes. That really drags the price down for the few good ones.

Agree with you on the price aspect, there's also a lot of car guys looking for cheap winter beaters around this time of year.

agreed

wading through BS is a two way street. How can you tell me you're a serious buyer when you're negotiating price before even seeing it? Thats one of my pet peeves.

I certainly didnt advertise it as perfect, i listed everything good and bad about it and let the kijiji sort it out.
