That's terrible! You tried to do everything right, from taking their picture, verifying the guy's story about Crown...
What happened the day afterwards?
I would have taken off as soon as the dude showed up, especially at 2AM.
What happened the day afterwards? He looked at his empty wallet, the pictures of the fatass crackheads and felt like an idiot, then he decided to post it online so we could sympathise about his misfortune...That's exactly what happened.
Today, there aren't enough nice and kind people. But it's too bad that people like this prey on the few that are left. Many people who are still kind and want to genuinely help people, will become jaded about being generous in the future from interactions like this. Its too bad really.
I'd think he posted it to warn people to beware of the scam. Not everyone is at the top of their game at 2am.
Got a few of those interactions myself. A lady giving me a sob story about being away from home in Burlington. I called ********, then see her again the other week asking for money. Buncha losers
I think its best you be on top of your game if you decide to pull over at 2am on a bike in Brampton....More so when the person is hassling you for 40-60 bucks. Thats's probably how much the kid makes from a shift of work. Thats 4-6 hours of putting in work just ****** away...because you weren't on top of your game.
If that's the excuse buddy has no business being on a bike at that hour in the winter months, its imperative that you be on your game.

First time I had it pulled on me was in Huntsville, Alabama, where the guy asking me for money was wearing shoes that were worth more than every stitch of clothes that I had on, plus the contents of my wallet.
