Running.. ugghh

I was out yesterday. Did a good distance, my obliques are hurting me. From all the breathing.

Question, is it better to open mouth to breathe or close mouth breathe thru nostrils?

Open mouth is more efficient for me, but dries my mouth. It dehydrates me quicker too, lol

In through the nose out the mouth like you're blowing out the smoke of a sweet sweet cigarette.

I'm up to 6km every other day. I've been at this running thing since June but my weight loss hasn't been incredible. I'm only down 10lbs but I've only cut the beer back by half instead of all together.

Its a good way to lose weight, unless u do soccer, lol.

I do weights and "try" to run, my tummy is tightening a bit. Gimme a month, I'll be modelling for Calvin Klein

GTAM street hockey tournament!!!!!!

Theres an idea! Lets get together for some Ball hockey or soccer or something.

Just took the dog with me on my run in the thunderstorm. Now that I'm back the sun is shining lol.

Oh and there was mention of HIIT...it works great for burning fat, but if you are trying to build muscle as well, it doesnt work because the intensity of the cardio training eats at the muscle production.

we had a Soccer meet 2yrs ago, but it cooled down after a while. I don't mind street hockey or something. I need to get fit. I was always skinny and all of a sudden, I am getting a belly, lol.

I am trying to lose weight, so cardio and weights is good for me

I'm training to get back to playing soccer next year and was hoping to drop 23lbs before the snow flies then switch to free weights while I hibernate. If I can maintain a fit 165lbs I'd be happy.

That's pretty skinny, no?

I'm 175 and 5'8

I'm 5'8 and 180 right now and still feels like there's 13lbs hanging around my tummy. I'm looking for speed and a lighter weight should help me keep up with those whipper snappers. Come spring I'm going to do sprint training as I should have the weight off by then.

Yeh, I don't want to be too bulky. Most ppl go to the gym and want to put on mass. I just want to get ripped and toned. When u play sports when u are bulky, u lack the speed and agility.

Plus its hard to have stamina when u are bulky, hate being beat by those mountain bike gurus

5x5 is your friend!

Google 5x5 workout. (at work and the link to a good one is at home).

Basically it's an A/B workout system that trains whole body and not specific muscle groups.

Never heard of that, interesting tho.

I think I might puke at the end of that session, unless I do light weights, lol.

Same here. In general it's hard to have big muscle mass and maintain cardio. It takes a lot of oxygen to feed that muscle.

I'm 5'10" and 180lbs-ish right now. I still have a bit of flubber around my midsection, I think losing another 10lbs won't be unreasonable. My tri-bike is 22lbs with bottle cages and tool kit. I could go drop $7000 on a full carbon bike that would probably get me 8lbs.. or i could just lose 10lbs of fat and use that $7000 for something else. :)

Similar to P90X?

Funny thing about cycling is that once you get to a certain level, once you develop a certain amount of leg strength you actually start using more of your body in your riding. It's a bit surprising how much of your core you use and even upper body when you're pushing that hard. After rides during which i focus on leg strength exercises (read: slower cadence and bigger gear) I'll definitely feel it in my abs, arms and chest.

I get a little pukey in most spin classes. Probably one in three I'll throw up in my mouth a little. I don't know how to do this "take it easy" thing other people talk about.

Dude you are an athlete and u have belly fat?? Makes me feel good about myself, lol. I think beer has to do alot about me not losing belly. To be honest, I kill my abs in the gym and still can't lose it. I always do upper and lower abs.

Don't get me wrong, I push myself. But I don't want to push myself so hard that I want to faint. Sometimes I feel that, lol. Thats when your brain becomes deprived of O2. You know what they say about brain cells not being re-generative. I just don't feel comfortable pushing myself all over the top consistently.

Just this recently run, my whole body hurts, even my breathing muscles, lol. I was panting so hard. Maybe I am too unfit, lol

But not THAT hard. I'm 5'10" and weigh 210lbs. Bodyfat % is low and I can run a 10k easy and do cardio about 5 times a week. I MTB and roadbike both hardcore as well (17lb Devinci road and nice FSR Stumpy for trail). Running at 210lbs is a lot worse for your joints than with a typical light runners body which is one of the reasons I do so much cycling. I really do enjoy running though and may do the Scotia half-marathon next month.

I know it's the beer. I love Rickard's White but it's 178 calories a bottle!!! I've switched to Coors Light for weekends...102 calories a bottle.

Each one of your arms is the size of an average runner!
