"Fail" could mean giving less than optimum service during that particular oil change cycle not outright engine failure. Over the years certain brands of very expensive dedicated 4 stroke M/C oil have been proven to be nothing special. They didn't deliver the extreme performance advertised. The willingness to "slip one by" the consumer is well documented. Food and pharma are examples of even higher stakes. Tolerances and specifications only mean something when adhered to. The point of my original post, based on something I read on an oil thread, was don't assume you're getting the gold standard at fire sale prices. It's a race to the bottom when everybody shops on price. Of course there's a good chance everything's on the up and up too.
