OK, I keep hearing ppl praising Ted from Rosey Toes. Here's my experience...

Back in 2001 I bought a 1985 Maxim 400 from Ted. I was broke and needed to get on the road, It was $1000.00. Definetly cheap and can't expect much from the machine.

The transaction went like this:

-Gave $1K cash and rode the "certified" bike away with friends plate.
-Turned right on Wilson Ave (less than 1 km from shop) and the bike gave out, pulled into driveway.
-Luckly my friend was with me in a car as I tried to restart the bike.
-Starter broken, no problem cause there's a kick-start.
-Put side-stand down and try to start bike...
-9 attempts later, side-stand cracks and I find myself on the ground.
-Call Ted and tell him about the problems, he sends his tow truck out to get bike.
-My friend drives me home, angry cause I couldn't ride bike home but at least he's taking care of the problem.
-6 days later my bike is ready to ride.
-Pick bike up and ride it for another 5 days before the starter craps out on me again.
-Don't want to bother getting it fixed so kick-start the bike for another 1 month.
-During this time bike is burning oil like mad and the exhaust creates a hole and makes the bike loud as hell, I deal with it.
-Bring bike in to get a oil change and the mechanic points out a major crack in the frame (which I can visually see and thank you know who that it never gave out on me)
-1 week after this I'm trying to send the bike to the scrapers and get $100 for the metal.
-For some reason nobody wants to touch the bike (called 7 different scrapers) and I have to spend $50 for someone to take it off my hands.

From this point on I've never gone back and never will go back to Rosey Toes or like I like to call him CHEESY TOES.

Great place if you want a bike "certified" fast and cheap but will never trust his work or his word.

IMHO.

wow this was 10 years ago way to hold a grudge. Did you give the guy a chance by at least visiting him to see if things have changed in those past 10 years? What was the point of dragging his name through the mud anyways?

Seems like you were expecting a lot from a bike you can't expect much from.

Get what you pay for I guess

OP: It's a little too late to be dragging this up now. Time to let go.

This is a poor attitude. You buy something certified, from a mechanic no less, you expect it to be roadworthy and last more than 1km before conking out, no matter how much you paid for it. He wasn't expecting factory-fresh for $1000 I'm sure, but he was expecting it to be roadworthy and operational, which is fair.

You mean that you did not inspect the bike at all when you bought it? I don't care if the seller is a mechanic or not, always inspect the bike. If someone shows you a crack in the frame, I am sure you would have found it when you should have inspected the bike. Live and learn.

this happened before '9-11' .. the whole world has changed since then.

Did you ever take the time to discuss this rationally with Ted? Sure, you discovered a crack in the frame, what if he never saw it when doing the safety, or maybe it happened after the inspection. Did he refuse to do anything about it, or did you even ask?
This was a 10 year old bike, and picking on Ted in this forum is not going to make you any friends. I'd like to hear his side of the story.

You make the guy sound like he was trying to rip you off or something. I highly doubt that, Ted is a really humble guy.

Try going back to Ted and make him right this wrong.... oh the injustice in this world.

Why didn't you go back to Ted after it crapped out again? You put yourself through your own grief, sorry to say. If that was me I would have brought the bike back, gotten it fixed, then if it happened again I'd ask to swap the bike for one that's less of a lemon. What did you expect from a $1000 bike?

The man buys and sells bikes. He doesn't ride them all to see which are lemons. This is the nature of buying used bikes. Don't blame the man for something that really wasn't his fault.

Always 2 sides , totally agree with skapan

Technically, it was a 16 year old bike, ten years ago.

10 year grudge? That's some hardcore hate. Why not just set fire to his business and even the score a little?

10 years ago yes, but why would I go back to give him more business after that ordeal? It's not a grudge, just my opinion and my choice not to do business with his shop. I'm just bring up his name cause I keep hearing people talk about him and I believe that, as other posters have mentioned, there are 2 sides 2 every story, this is my story. Just thought to put it out so people can hear it judge for themselves.
