RIP Sheridan motorcycle training

What I have seen, is that the instructors that do not teach very well, know that they don't.
If they feel that they are teaching at a sub par level, they will usually take them selves out of the game so that the good instructors can do a better job.
A bad instructor will normally feel very bad that they are not doing such a great job.
If they try to do a better job, and it doesn't work out, they know it.
It bugs them. They will quit.

New instructors do not have the experience of seeing what each student needs, and lack the ability to get a weak student to pass.

If I had the choice I would go to a course where the instructors had many years of teaching under their belts, so that they can take care of me personally.

Colleges that have a high attrition lack this ability.
And the new instructors never see how a, really good experienced instructor, handles themselves in situations.

Learning from experience teaches competence.

OH, forgot to say.
I have 12 years experience working with instructors who have many more years than I.
I have never seen a stagnant instructor.

I don't know where that statement came from?
If a instructor with 30 years teaching gets bored. They stop teaching.

I believe that Sheridan may have run it's final motorcycle training course. For those who don't know, Sheridan made an announcement some time ago that 2013 would be the final year it would be offering motorcycle training.

RIP Sheridan motorcycle training courses. You taught me how to safely ride a motorcycle. All the best to the instructors and hopefully you all get to continue teaching somewhere else.

The bikes from Sheridan College are now for sale:

Wow, really overpriced for bikes most likely missing second gear and clutches.

Just to clear up some misconceptions.

When Sheridan closed, we had to buy all the bikes which was 91. Our new school MTOph will only be teaching 50 students at a time so we have some extra ones. With all the start up costs, selling some extra bikes will help. We can use the money. We are only planning on selling about 10 bikes in total.

As far as mechanically, these bikes are sound. Each one was certified by an outside mechanic every year for liability reasons. All bikes were maintained on a regular basis. Thier quality will be way better than some of the stuff you will buy from some newb that did not know how to take care of a bike.

As far as the price is concerned, a CBR goes for $2000 to $2200 on the market. These bikes are a steal at this price. If you are looking for a starter price, give me a shout.

What kind of remark is that?
Why would a newer Honda be missing 2nd gear and have bad clutches with less than 5,000km on them?

Problem is that those mileage numbers are going to be way off. Those bikes all had the speedometers disconnected; now, I may not be a mechanic, but common sense tells me that if the speedo doesn't register, neither will the odometer.

You definatly are NOT a mechanic! You know nothing of what you pretend to know. All the bikes for sale have never had their speedometer cables disconnected. The Titans had theirs disconnected or removed. You will not find any of these bikes for sale. The Eliminators could not have had them removed since they were used on the street for the M2 exit by our instructors. That would be illegal.

Know your facts before you shoot off your mouth.....

Sidebar: General Electric designed the Fukushima nuclear plant and provided 3 of the 6 reactors.

What does that have to do with anything? It's not like it was operated by GE physicists.
That's like saying it's Land Rover's fault when some soccer mom causes a pile-up when she decides to do her makeup while drinking her coffee and texting...during a whiteout.

I've taken the courses. I know how people ride them and the gear grinding that they go through.

Honda knows how to build a transmission. I have been a mechanic with Sheridan for 8 years. I have never seen any bike on course "drop". gear.
EVER

They are training bikes. Most people would have reservations buying them. Like buying a rental car,or car that was used for driver training. Most are not babied.

Saying that I know of a training Hyosung that was bought and wrenched on. Bud loves it

Great news! Good to have Sheridan back!

Removing all the advertising in this thread by everyone would make the thread completely unreadable.

Notice to all instructors: It's greatly appreciated that you spend your time teaching new riders and help them love and enjoy the sport as we do. Please continue to participate in the board by offering your expertise. However, please refrain from advertising the company that you work for. There is a forum for that!

This thread has been closed. If the members would like to start another thread about all the great experiences they had at Sheridan and how it will be missed, please feel free to do so. Absolutely any advertising posted in that thread will cause the thread to be removed immediately.

Regards,
CK
