Rifle Ranges near Toronto

Sorry to dredge up an old thread. So Silverdale has this mandatory CSSA/ATT course for restricted firearms (Club Level Handgun Course). I don't own a pistol, so do I still need this course before I can bring my rifle up there (with the club's permission and resulting ATT of course)? The rifle is classified restricted.

Any guidance about this course and it's applicability to my situation would be greatly appreciated folks.

thanks

An update. Silverdale appears to be the best option. I will post up additional reviews but so far, this place is quite reasonable. Owner is one jovial fella, and the Ranges are well organised. Good systematic approach to everything. So far I like it quite a bit.

this is the best out there, indoor, rates a resonable, nice variety of rifles, pistols are restricted to holders of firearm licence in NY. Very clean place and brand new, 100 yards

Silverdale is $110 cheaper with less restrictions (IE use of a restricted firearm) and in Canada.

If you just want to go for a day shopping and rent a gun that range looks nice, I just don't know about transporting my guns across the border.

It's do-able ... I know someone who does it and when they cross the border, the very first thing they do is shove the paperwork at the border guard.

What 110 cheaper, u pay about 25 insurance + 15 rental + 19 for 20 bullets, do the math = no time restriction can buy as many bullets as u want, could bring your rifle and lead but still pay insurance.

Do the math? read the costs and my post again. Memberships for the year. And as I posted I mentions if you want to rent and gun and use their range looks good.

(Plus it looks like its 50 yards only, the OP wanted longer ranges) If I take a day trip down there sometime I might go there for some fun.

I took my glock to Indianapolis once, but that was a long time ago. They didn't even want the paperwork.. but a fair amount has changed since then. If I wanted to then I would check it out.

So in the end it is Silverdale. Here is my review:
1. Ranges: I would rate them as Good. Particularly as there is always space and they have something worthy of the average rifle enthusiast.
2. Procedures: As at most ranges there are good safety procedures in place and the staff at hand make the experience a safe and enjoyable one.
3. Location: A bit far for me but in the end that's just what one must do to find a range that allows medium and/or long range
4. Staff: Helpful. I would rate them at Excellent
5. General Impression: A very good range that is safe and well organised. It appears to be run by a core of veteran staff members who are safety oriented but not overbearing. Overall a good range, well run and not congested. I would highly recommend to anyone who is considering a rifle range.

Thanks all.

Too far, too expensive and I do not like some of the rules. Silverdale is a much better choice

$350.00 for a yearly membership with a $6.00 visit each trip. or for non members $17.00 first hour and $4.00 every 15 minutes after.

3. Shotgun ammo allowed: Slugs, Sabots, and Buckshot. No Steel Shot or Target Load Allowed.
4. Watch your time. You will be charged overtime after your first hour.
5. Only 10 rounds to a rifle magazine. NO RAPID FIRE! <----- this one alone screams stay away

Silverdale is 240 a year or 20.00 per visit. Your 20.00 will get you in for the whole day. This includes the 2 trap ranges and live action range. There extra charge for staying pas an hour. Steel and target loads are allowed as are legal high cap mags. Limiting my tactical 22LR to 10 rounds takes away a lot of the fun. It's just not the same without it's 25 round banana mag in it. ;)

^ hahhahhahaa!

I don't rent guns so I wouldn't know. But I seem to remember Target Sports charging something like 35 or 40 bucks for the rental, and then 50 cents a round for 9mm and almost a buck for .45 which is just crazy.

9mm normally costs $15/50rnds and .45 is still under $25/50rnds. Their rental rate for .223 ammo is 2 friggin dollars per bullet when the normal price is around 50 cents. Not sure how they justify this... besides maybe just wanting to discourage people from shooting too much ammo through their rental guns, which I suppose is reasonable.

The reason their .223 ammo is so expensive is because it is frangible ammo, that can't be bought anywhere else. Can't shoot regular .223 FMJ there because the backstop isnt rated for it.

9mm has been $15/box for a while now, that's a regular price.

Still, $2 per frangible .223 round is pretty steep. I remember buying a case of it about 4 years ago - I wouldn't have paid that much or even half that. Not worth it IMO.

$2/bullet? I think not.
