Rifle Ranges near Toronto

Many thanks to all the great feedback and advice.
It appears I may have to revert to the ORA in the future, for the 400M + at Mons, but I am loathe to set foot at the range I qualified at in civvy attire... . so I was looking for something a little less structured where I can do basic target practise on my own time, etc, as I still have to break-in, zero etc. for a little while before I can show up at the formal events that ORA has.
So it appears silverdale is the best option until I get my **** squared away and can show up for ORA events without getting laughed off the range. Any idea about contact name or a reference? I find it makes things much easier were I to approach the club exec with a reference to gain membership.
Many thnaks to all for your guidance, it's greatly appreciated!

With Silverdales don't even worry about that, none of that reference stuff happens at this club, its very friendly. They do new registrations on Saturday, so go in the morning some time 10-12 (call ahead and let them know), they do the yearly membership from Feb, but since we are all the way in Oct they will adjust the price for the remainder of the year, and charge you full price again in Feb ($225).

Also do not take any firearms with you until you have your ATT (duh), just saying just in case, because it will take about 2 weeks for them to add that to your PAL/RPAL...

If you ever see a red mustang unloading a retarded amount of gear, come say hi..

 For what reason would that happen?
I have yet to zero the weapon and have very little experience with the present configuraiton. Pesumeably I will not be ver accurate and will have to work some kinks out not to mention a bit of rust. As well, I am not certain what the norms are for recreational shooters...most shooters have a basic amount of kit they employ that is considered a requirement, I have yet to understand that. MY requirements are rather sparse given my previous experience with the activity.

^^ Many thanks to all, I will try and swing by Silverdale soon! Tomorrow appears too nice of a day to not go out for a ride, so perhaps I will swing by on the Boss. Take care all!

No one at the ORA is going to laugh you off the range. Actually, they're more likely to assist you any way they can.

Seth would be a good person to speak to when you get there. There is a range officer there named Monte. From what I have heard he was a sniper in the Canadian Military. Might be good to speak with him also.

yup silverdale for the win, seth is a good guy.
joining silverdale was easier than taking a morning ****.

1. FAR as ****, but with 4+ ranges and a shoot anything you bring attitude (who cares)
2. easy sign up, great variety of ranges, and again they let you shoot whatever you want! (as long as your licensed (prohib, restric, etc)
3. trap/skeet, pistol, action, a few long ranges, archery, the works
4. no dis's.
5. dusk till dawn operation, just go when u want and leave when you want, gate card access, etc.

A handful of bullets and a gun to shot them with. What else do you need?

Anyone heading to Silverdale in the future? My Mossberg 930 is dying to put out a few rounds..

It's a little cold for silverdale at the moment. I will stick with my indoor club for now. Got me one of the new mossberg tactical 22LR, pretty fun to shoot and looks cool with the red dot on it.

One of the AR styles for 299? I was thinking on grabbing one. Looks like a fun little gun. It is a little cold right now I might wait untill it is warmer out. Last time I was there I did have to try a rapid shoot with the shotgun.. That was fun, but at the end your shoulder feels it. lol

yes one of the cheaper AR styles. It is basically a mossberg 702 plinkster dressed up with some plastic. I got it for 269 at cabelas. So far it has been a lot of fun. I was looking at getting the M&P 15-22 but it is classified as restricted and is also 600. The mossy is un restricted which means I'm going rabbit hunting. :)

Sounds like fun! I might pick one up later. I have tried one and I did have fun. We will see.. Maybe this spring I will get one

Actually if you go on Silverdales website they have a gun rental now.. Well its not a gun rental, but you get to select a gun, get some ammo and a range officer takes you out so you shoot. They can't rent guns but this is the closest you can get to renting them.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread. So Silverdale has this mandatory CSSA/ATT course for restricted firearms (Club Level Handgun Course). I don't own a pistol, so do I still need this course before I can bring my rifle up there (with the club's permission and resulting ATT of course)? The rifle is classified restricted.

Any guidance about this course and it's applicability to my situation would be greatly appreciated folks.

thanks

you're rifle is still restricted, so yup. i think you still need to attend the course

I believe if you want to become a member you will have to take the course. It's a mandatory thing set by the CFC. If you just want to go shoot your rifle for the day you can go on the weekend. There is a 20.00 dollar fee to enter and thats it. As for the ATT, that would depend on what rifle you have. Most are non restricted but there are some such as the M&P 15-22 and other AR varients that are concidered restricted.
