Riding the Valley these days....has been awesome, from Bloor to 401 I've been doing it in under 10 min in rush hour thanks to the HOV lanes.

I'm hoping the the City keeps the Don HOV lanes permanent. I've always thought this would make sense especially for rush hour if anything.

Did we really need another HOV lane thread?

I wonder if you will feel the same way in Jan during a snow storm when that same commute takes you 5 hours in your cage??

I'd love to see permanent HOV lanes but they need to lower the required humans from 3 to 2. Possibly even include commercial vehicles. People need to re-examine single occupant commuting. It will come to either HOV lanes or Tolls to reduce single occupant congestion.

So far from what I've seen on the Gardiner its the idiot drivers crashing into each other that are causing many of the gridlock. The Gardiner ran all last year on reduced lanes without issue but now we have morons cutting in and out of the HOV lanes the moment they see police and causing crashes.

There will never be enough lanes for traffic. You can extend the DVP to 5 lanes wide each side like the 407, and it'll still be a parking lot. It rewards people who carpool. Technically, if you do the math, if you get a carpool of 2 people, that's one less car on the DVP. I also would like to see the HOV sticks around.

I have no cage....I ride till December then Jog....till March :p

Hehe

btw... Looks like more people will be cheating on them now that Rob Ford does... Lol. The guy just admitted that he pops in and out of the lanes on cp24.com

wait wait wait

Bikes can use the HOV lane?

Seriously? Is that true?

I passed another rider today as he was sitting still in the adjacent lane. I thought wtf? Does he no know? Is he not even curious enough to google it and find out? But then he was, as they say, outta sight, outta mind.

what about during the winter when you can no longer ride. Great for us but what about the cagers that are stuck in traffic and can not get home because o that stupid HOV lane? it's all about me these days.

Can you imagine the amount of money that could have been made selling PAN AM HOV lane permits for anyone that wants. $100/veh.

HOV on gardiner and DVP is reasonable.

The other ones (like QEW) not so sure about it

Make all highways with HOV and then add moto access and you'll see the number of moto owners skyrocket. All the hubbies will have excuses to buy one.

As I see it cagers and you in winter months have choices- ride the red rocket or 2 up and ride the HOV...not that hard to figure out...

Sure if your neighbor just happens to work the same hours and near the same place as you. Not going to affect me as I on't commute ANYWHERE near DVP or Gardiner. But typical Toronto centeralist answer take the Red Rocket.. well I have a news flash for you The Red Rocket doesn't run to Oshawa, or Brooklin or Whitby or Brampton..

But as long as you can get to work in 10 minutes, then to hell with everyone else who has to commute and guess what OUR taxes paid for those lanes. Make you a deal KEEP the HOV permanently, BUT make them all the same, as the 401 and QEW, NO bikes I bet your attitude might sway then.. but hey your happy...

Keep them and I can envision with the traffic nightmares soooooo many others are experciencing will piss off some..perhaps your boss who decides he will move that job of yours closer to place where everyone can get say Uxbridge or Newmarket... have fun jogging there daily. The fincial hit businesses are taking due to this assinine plan is incredulous.

You don't need an exact neighbor, just find a colleague who comes from the same area direction-east or west give or take 10 km alot of people do this thing called car pool, and their is something called the GO train if you come from those bedroom towns, (I guess when I said red rocket I should have said public transit- my bad). Also the DVP is paid by municipal taxes not Ajax, Brampton, Bowmanville or Kingston taxes....

We're discussing the DVP HOV- they are 2 passengers requirement- not 3 like the 400 series.

Have you guys seen that Google is going to release a ride share program that pays the Car Pool operator? Its designed to be similar carpooling but making it easy for people to connect and share the costs.. http://phandroid.com/2015/07/06/google-ride-sharing/

Oh, and Im sniggering to myself at all the complaints from people with regard to PanAm, TTC, trtaffic and commuting. Its the by product of having created a car driven society (excuse the bad pun) that north america has developed and this city has embraced.
