return on the E bikes...

Because they put other motorcycle riders and pedestrians at risk.. An e-bike is in fact a motor vehicle and should be treated as such. If it darts in front of a motorcycle, they are both ****ed. If it plows into a group of pedestrians at 40km/h, they're all ****ed.. And I've seen'em ride those things on sidewalks, cutting through parks, even inside buildings.

Exactly... I've saw the most amazing stunts. I flip them the bird.. and honk while passing to spook them.. :D hahaha

Not really trying to rock the boat or anything, but, the small diameter wheels and narrow tires on those things, combined with the 30km/h speeds possible, means hitting deep roadside potholes (or even ruts or pavement grooves) can grab the tire and will practically launch you into the ground or at least flatten a tire. The swerving people are mentioning, which I did not observe, would seem to be attempts to avoid all the potholes that collect near the shoulder/edge of the road, as this is the area of the road where these riders typically ride.

I think most of the comments are on target, but to demonize everybody using them, well I'm sure any motorcyclist knows how that feels.

No, the wobbling you see is the lack of balance control . I am serious.

I do believe it is lack of balance control as well.

So far this year I have seen:

1) Large middle aged man wearing a batting helmet riding against traffic on the shoulder on airport road in Brampton.

2) Middle aged man wearing a bicycle helmet blow through a red light cut across on the pedestrian cross walk and continue the wrong way in the bike lane on the Queensway in Toronto.

3) Another fail to stop at a red light west bound on bloor at keele, by another middle aged man wearing a bicycle helmet. Who then was swerving over a full lane on his way up to Highpark.

4) Teenage girl wearing a 3/4 motorcycle helmet riding in the bike lane, actually obeying traffic laws (this has been my one positive ebike experience this year)

This is one of the things I truly despise... Either you are a vehicle or a pedestrian, many bikes and mobilitry scooters suffer the same problem.

Infuriates me too man.. turning into a "pedestrian" to use the cross walk on an ebike to get through the red light... classic!

I must live under a rock because I have no idea what these E-bikes are... some post a pic?? :D

They're the things that look like a motorcycle from way off in the distance, until you see how slow they are moving. They must think they're driving a special type of motorcycle that doesn't require a licence, since they are always clogging up the "Motorcycles Only" parking spaces all the time. Bicycles park in the bicycle racks and don't require a licence, motorcycles in the motorcycle parking spots and require a licence, but for some reason E-bikes are special and get to do WTF they want.

since they are supposed to follow bicycle rules, they are technically supposed to dismount and walk the bike across pedestrian crossing. Cyclists can actually get a $90+ ticket for riding across. Its never enforced except on Danforth when the y do a cycle blitz once in a while.

see more fines here: http://www.messmedia.org/messville/TO_FINES.HTM

I bet a lot of cyclists would be surprised...

My favourite sighting so far was the e-bike with two kids on it and one being pulled behind on a skateboard. I was making a right on a red. I'm glad I stopped and put my foot down since they came shooting off the sidewalk. Oh, and of the 3 at least the kid on the skateboard was wearing a helmet.

What's up with the mobility scooters on the road now too??? So figgen annoying and dangerous.

For some it's lack of curb ramps at intersections in some areas. In others too many knobs parking their scooters and motorcycles on the sidewalk making it impassible for the mobility scooters. And in others, ironically enough, there are simply too many able-bodied pedestrians walking and who won't easily "make a path" to make it possible for the mobility scooter to get through. I agree that they shouldn't be on the road if there is a safe and usable alternative.

Kinda understand the packed side walk senario but most of the time I see them there is perfectly clear side walk for them to use. I think is sort of like the runners on the road. They don't want to deal with the cracks and dips of the side walk.

To me it's more about pedestrians using the road.. Especially kids but I've seen'em in all age groups. The adults generally stick to the edge of the road, but the kids like to walk down the middle, sometimes with their backs facing the direction the traffic is coming from (in 1-way streets)..

It would be nice to sneak up to them at idle, gear down and drop the clutch while blasting the horn, from only a couple of feet away.. I'd never admit to 172ing it like that, but if I did, I would have seen'em jump back to the safety of the curb with all the speed and agility of freshly-minted teens

P.S. Talking to the school officials and police doesn't help
